I leave my headlights on auto all the time. When I turn my truck on in the morning, even if it is broad daylight out the lights come on. If I turn the stalk down to "on" and then move it back to "auto" the lights will turn off, because it's daylight. Any ideas? Obviously it's not going to kill me or anyone else having my lights on when they don't need to be, just an annoyance.

you don't have a baseball cap or something on the dashboard do you?

While, yes, that may appear to be a stupid question to some.... Some people on this forum might have made that mistake and we shouldn't judge, right?

If no ball cap or something obstructing the sensor, then I'd suggest that the sensor is malfunctioning and a trip to the dealer is in order since it's new

No cap - and yeah, sounds like someone could have made that mistake maybe and definitely shouldn't be judged.

Most likely there is timer to smooth out the on/off or off/on transition ... I don't know for sure but I can see why such a timer can be a good idea.

    Try this:
give it some time, the auto switch is in the "ON" state based on the previous condition for example from the previous night driving ...
in the morning, the sensor detects the light but the timer i was talking about has not expired yet, it will most likely reset to "OFF" if you are patient grasshopper :D

    Let us know.

I've got a 2015 Limited and you can set sensitivity and time for the lights to shut off when you turn off your truck, it may be a bit different on your 2016 but check your OM.
