    Hey there everyone!
I’m a new owner of a 09 Tundra Limited 5.7L. I’m really hoping that some of you experienced Toyota lovers can help me out as this is my first Toyota pick up. So the truck has been awesome I love it although it’s 10 years old it’s in excellent condition and runs and drives like a new vehicle.
So my issue is, this morning I hopped in to head to work, put the key in the ignition and tried to start and nothing! The vehicle acted as if it had no power at all, no clicking, no dash lights, nothing... I tried 3 times turning it off then back on and got no signs of life. So as I was getting the jumper cable and opening the hoods to both vehicle my wife commented “babe your dome light is on”. I looked and was totally surprised! I hopped in and turned the key, she fired right up! So I tried turning it off and waiting and it fired up as if it never had an issue. I drove it to work, while at work I checked it multiple times and every time fired up without an issue. So it appears it never had an issue but all of my settings had been reset. Climate control went from Fahrenheit to Celsius and my clock was now behind 3 minutes, also my stereo setting were different. I’m totally confused at what this could be and I’m afraid if it happens again I could be stranded. Does this sound familiar to any of you experienced Toyota owners? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Does seem strange. Is start by testing or replacing your battery. Especially if you're in cold temps.

Sounds like you have an intermittent dead cell on that battery. How old is the battery?

It has me totally stumped! A lot of people in other similar situations have said dirty terminals. The weird thing is I didn’t touch or attempt anything before noticing the dome light was on. I popped the hood, and hadn’t even hooked the cables up. Tried to fire it up and it started . The weird thing is all my vehicle settings were reset, as if the battery had been disconnected.

I’m not sure how old the battery is I’ve only had the vehicle for about 3 weeks.

Gonna sound dumb, but did you check to see if the terminal is tight?

The dealership I bought the vehicle from has just done a complete inspection and gave it a good bill of health. For what that’s worth I guess. It hasn’t given any signs of a weak battery, all the lights seem good even the dome and it doesn’t have any hesitation when starting. How would I check for a dead cell?

If there is any sort of warranty I'd have the dealer test the battery or just have them replace it.

Ok so now I feel dumb! The posts on the battery looks clean and new but taking a closer look the positive cable looks like it’s tightened down as far as it can go but is loose, I was able to lift it right off the post and the inside of the connection has white corrosion on it. Could this possibly be all that it is?! Wow! Like I said, feeling pretty small right now... thank you!

Probably it. Don't feel dumb. Better than some expensive repair on a "new to you" truck!

Might also be an incorrect battery, or a worn out terminal. Either way the dealer you bought it at should fix it.

Thank you all for your help! You’ve been awesome! I am greatful that this is all it could be. I guess I should have taken a closer look, at a glance everything looked to be ok. No excuses but I hadn’t really went after it yet as I just got home from work and planned on going after it in the morning, hahaha! On a positive note I joined a new forum with awesome members! Thanks again!
