Left for summer vacation with the family this past Saturday morning. Just finding time to update about the drive down and some driving impressions.

Headed from Atlanta GA to Cape San Blas Florida. Google says it was 362 miles one way. I’m in a 2019 Limited CM and this is our 2nd long over the road trip since i got the truck back in Jan of this year. Just turned over 3,000 miles on the ODO on this trip.

On the way down I averaged 80 mpg, noticed i was running appx 1,800 rpm and got around 17 mpg.

I read a post the other day where someone said they ran 80 mph at 1,200-1,300 rpms but that wasn’t my experience at all. I’m not sure if they’re re-geared or what.

We’re with two other families and we rented a house right on the beach so i haven’t left the unit since we arrived. Good thing too b/c there’s literally nothing down here. One little corner store and that’s about it. Nearest town is Port St Joe FL and that’s about 30 min away.

Saw a really nice iron pig here on the Cape:

If my baby girl is happy, i’m happy. So far so good

Forgot to mention, had the truck loaded down with our family’s gear and added some payload from another family so the 17 mpg seemed pretty good to me:

Ran into this monster Ford while at the Piggly Wiggly in Port St Joe. Didn’t know quite what to think but had to post. Guy must be carrying 100 gal gas tanks? Anyone seen these before?

All in all, trip is progressing pretty good so far and i’m happy with truck’s performance given the amount of crap we’re hauling for the baby. Feel like a circus with all the gear the kid needs. But totally worth it:

I bought my Tundra last year and have already clocked a few road trips in it, so far I've done Panama City Beach x2, St. Simon Island/Jekyll Island, & Akron Ohio, this was the longest trip I had taken with it, about 10 hours including stopping for food, restrooms, and fuel but my girlfriend and I got to our destination and didn't feel groggy or tired at all. I've done a couple small trips to Athens & Ft. Benning as well and I'm planning on Pensacola & Asheville this year.

I love this truck for long trips, its super comfortable & spacious the Crew Max cab is awesome when you have rear seat passengers. Its not noisy and is well tamed on the highway. That is pretty good gas mileage you are getting. I get close to the 17 mpg mark if I'm doing strictly highway.

I've seen a couple of those Fords in the in person they are F650s and call them Super Trucks/XUVs. There are a couple companies that build them. They essentially take a Ford F650 and custom build them to whatever spec you want. Most of them come with the bigger International/Navistar engines but some of them also come with CAT/Cummins engines.

Safe travels on your trip. May have to check out your destination on my next vacation.

It looked like it might have a sleeper unit in the back but was hard to tell. Had a/c and satellite on the roof. Hard core rig.

It might be worth the trip down here. On the upside, there's not that many people here and it's very remote, which is nice. On the downside, there's not much to do at night so if you have kids, they need to like being outside and that's about it. Works for us but not for everyone.

Yea the sky is pretty much the limit with those builds. I had a client/friend of mine who used to do long distance towing/hauling all sorts of freight/cargo/cars and he had one of the International MV Series Trucks that was totally decked out. It definitely wasn't cheap but when you're traveling cross country consistently you want something that can do it in comfort.

That sounds right up our alley. My girlfriend and I don't really care for the large crowds and prefer more quiet relaxing places also we have no kids to worry about so that is alright by us. I deliberately planned our vacation after school opens back up so it would be less crowded.

Great fishing in that area if you get the chance. Also swing over to Apalachicola if you have the time. Great restaurants and places to get a nice cold adult beverage.

That looks like a fun trip. I know my son is happy as long as he has his Marshall from Paw Patrol!
