As the title states, anyone do that? I HATE chrome am working on getting rid of it. I was looking at new steps but figured if I can paint (or dip) them, that might be a good option.

I know guys have done it, but Plastidip won't hold up well in areas you step on. Do you have caps or something where you step onto?

I know on my old Tacoma I sprayed the TRD skid plate with rattle can Bedliner and it held up pretty good. A friend used the same Bedliner on the roof racks on his work truck and he has been happy with it. That should hold up better than paint or Dip, but it will have that textured feel and look to it.

Powdercoat could be another decent option, could be pricey though.

That's a great idea. I bet the bed liner will be much more reliable. The steps do have foot pads but I can see someone stepping on the bar itself tearing plastidip off.

The textured finish of bedliner also helps hide scratches, scuffs, and if up North, rust.

We don't really have much of a rusting issue here in Dallas but scratches and scuffs, for sure.

That's a good question. Hopefully less than what it would cost to replace them with a plain black step. If not then I'll likely just replace them. I don't know if these chrome steps have a huge demand for them.

We used rattle can bedliner on my son's old Taco's bumpers and it held up very well. But they were black paint to begin with; scuffed them and sprayed, but no chrome. Sold my OEM Tundra chrome steps on Craigslist in two weeks and got $300 for them; replaced them with AMP steps.

Nice. I might just do this instead. I'd just get rid of the steps but seems like everyone in my family needs them to get in my truck. Lol. Oh well.
