I'm in Tucson and ideally would like to hear the system before taking the plunge. I am not in the market for a 3-4k, rip out the factory JBL system and install all after market pieces and since there are two "low cost" alternatives that people have tried, this and the tech12v sub box and woofer replacement, I want to see if 1200 dollars would be worth spending. Thanks.

I have the factory JBL system in my CrewMAX. It sucks and that’s being nice. I can’t wait to be rid of it. I’ll be keeping the head unit temporarily but will replace all stock speakers

    Tech12volts is your friend!

I almost went OEM+ but they jacked up the price like 300$ from 3 years ago and removed one of the 2 packages they offered. So Im going to pass and go *********

Not much help since I'm in south louisiana but I have an early oem+ audio system in my truck. For me it's perfect, clear and plenty loud all while looking factory. Install was easy too. If you want simple terms effective this is the way to go. I'm sure the other options are great as well

What about just change the head unit and keep the stock speakers. I did that on my 4runner with awesome results and was only out a couple hundred bucks. Gained andriod apps, bluetooth and a backup camera as well.

Not to do another corporate rant but a dude spends $50-60K on a 1794, Limited, or Pro......and you'd expect a decent sound system with head unit that is good out of the damned box and sounds well not just when parked in my driveway.
It's as if someone forgot on the last day of truck production..." Oh shit...we better toss in a car radio".." Grab those 1995 Camry units"
Also: XM...but not SiriusXM? wtf Toyota?....I want my channel 349 and Dwight Yokum Bakersfield Beat:mad:

Shame they had to jack up the price, but for a grand, I can do this installation. I only have two things left on my to-do list for this truck, the stereo and a spray in bed liner. Other than those two things, only going to do basic maintenance like I did with my 13.

I have a new Kenwood HU and tech12volts JL audio package (amp, components, 2 10”s) on the way so I’ll let you know how it turns out. I’m hoping to get everything installed next weekend. I’m just NW of Tucson.

Yep, I noticed that too. I was looking at their setup w/an additional sub last year and it's $200 more this year. Hard pass for me too now.

Im thinking of adding an amp after the JBL with DSP built in. Yeah its pricy but clean looking and might fit over the OEM amp. I Changed out my HU for an 12.1" android unit and it sounds a worse than before. I do love the 12.1" screen and integrated HVAC. Its all plug and play but also expensive . But I paid off the truck and have hated the OEM HU since day one. I now have Car play and any android app you can want, You can even add tire pressure sensors for 50$ and they show each tires pressure. Some really cool stuff if you like TeC like me

I have the JBL system in my 1794 and my "low cost" options are severely limited. Just for giggles, I started to put together an entire "gut the JBL system" on Crutchfield and the Kenwood head unit I picked was 700 dollars. Once I started to add it up, I reached the conclusion that I have only two choices, the OEM+ or the tech12v subwoofer upgrade.

I just ordered the Tech12v sub...and think it will fill the small void I have for some more bass. Can't go wrong for 200 or less and people seem to be in agreement that its a significant enough change.

I have so much other crap to buy besides audio lol

Had a member send us an email and invite us to the conversation. not our intent to be biased or solicit. However, if we can assist in clarification, we would be happy to do so. At a glance, it appears there may be a bit of confusion regarding our Tundra Sound Solutions for the non-JBL and JBL-Equipped vehicles.

The pricing on our JBL Enhancement (which is the only option we currently offer for the JBL-Equipped Tundra) actually has gone down $200 from $1199 to $999 as of December 2019 (Image attached of the JBL Enhancement configuration).

Meanwhile, our Sound Solution for the Non-JBL (The Reference 500 / System 500 for the SR5/TRD Pro) has increased in pricing as we have added a secondary amplifier (dedicated for the Subwoofer System) and made advances on our Main Power Amplifier with DSP.

I am curious, since the door panels would be off to install the tweeters in the upgrade, are you recomending replacing the front speakers? I have read in other threads the front door speaker construction isn't the same as the rear doors. That is the only thing I would consider adding to the system you are selling.

After extensive in-vehicle acoustic evaluation and testing. We determined that the JBL Front door and rear door speakers are suited for the JBL amplifier. Though we technically have speakers that seamlessly install into these locations (same connector and mounting), the JBL Speakers with the proper correction (by way of our Acoustic Correction Filters) are a better fit in concert with your JBL Amp (based on sensitivity, impedance, and other factors). Therefore we concluded that the the adjustments we accomplish with this package generated better results than charging more for a placebo effect of changing out the speakers. We want to provide the best value to dollar ratio possible.

Now if the JBL amplifier is being bypassed, there are a plethora of different routes/options that open up. However, we feel this is a bit invasive and therefore suggest the supplementary upgrade that plays nicely with your vehicle's current CAN-Bus network, rather than a complete heart transplant.

I think $1200 is a very achievable budget to replace everything but the head unit in a JBL equipped Tundra to have a really nice sound system -new amp, DSP, door speakers, and sub woofer. Like others above, I got everything from James at Tech12Volts. I would say removing the factory amp and installing a DSP is critical for good sound in a JBL equipped Tundra, a line out converter will not give you a full range signal and the factory amp adds noise that is difficult to control - I had a slight hiss sound when i had a JL Fix86 after the factory amp. Once I went to the DSR-1 processor in place of the factory amp, everything was easy. There is a harness for the DSR-1 that plugs right into the factory amp connector that communicates to the headunit and from the DSR-1 you run RCA cables to your aftermarket amps.
If you want to keep the factory speakers for now, I will say adding sound deadening to the doors really improved the sound output of the factory speakers. I installed over 50sf on the inside and outside faces of the doors and had the factory speakers in for 2-3 weeks until i had time to do the speaker and amp install.

I spent more than $1200 in total, my initial budget was $1200. but I did certain parts in stages to spread the cost out over time and as I had time to install. I started with dynamatting the doors, floor and back wall. While the carpet was out i installed the amp power cables and speaker wire to the where the subs would be (I left the power cables disconnected at the battery). Then installed the amps, door speakers, and subs another weekend.

There are other systems and options out there, I live in San Antonio TX (backyard to one option) and I still went with Tech12volts, the customer service he provided was outstanding. I had a few questions at 11pm one Saturday night, sent him an email since it was midnight in his timezone, within a few minutes he emailed me back and we went back and forth several times. When i installed the dash tweeters, I had questions outside of normal business hours again and received quick responses from James. In no way did I ever expect responses back that fast from him outside business hours, but he did.

Im going to pass on the OEM+ I cant stomach 1000$ for some tweeters and "Filtrers". and a mono sub. If I kept the factory HU I might change my mind but now I run the Tesla style 12.1" Android unit and have pre outs. I plan on running anAudioControl D-6.1200 with built in DSP in the future and change out every speaker in the truck now that its paid off.

I just did that this weekend after paying off my truck last month. Took out all 9 stock non-JBL speakers and put in JL speakers, subs and a 5 channel amp. Not cheap but worth it considering how much time we are in the truck.

Here is what I did ( I have the JBL system). I wanted to keep the factory HU just for Nav and simplifying the install. Picked up the taco tunes ReCurveEZQ, found a sub box on Amazon for $50. Found a deal on two 6.5” MB Quarts component set for $100. Picked up a 5 channel American bass amp and two American bass shallow mount subs. Had a amp wiring kit from previous 4Runner. Stripped everything out of the tundra and installed myself. Ran me about $800 and sounds great now! The bass is not crazy like my 4Runner was but I just wanted an sq install this time.
