Hey guys as the title says, I’ve searched but didn’t really see anyone post, do any of you have a pop up camper such as a go fast or topo topper etc? I currently have a gfc for my Tacoma and love it just picked up a 21 crew max and would like to put one on as well

I've got an AT Overland Atlas on my tundra and love it. The space is awesome and the camper is solid.

If I were to do it again though I would buy a 4 Wheel Camper Project M because it has a bigger bed and vertical walls. But we also camp with a kid and two dogs.

They’re asking project m money (15 k) for an overnight unproven company that’s tough plus the project m is insulated fully these guys aren’t

Yes, they are a young company, but they have been hustling their tails off to perfect their campers. The company is owned and operated by my brother-in-laws, so I clearly have a bias. Check out their Instagram page for some great information and examples of campers going out the doors on customer's trucks. Also, I think they sell insulation kits that snap into place on the tent walls.

There are lots of great choices out there when looking to buy a camper. If you are in the San Diego area, stop by and check em out. They'd be happy to give you a tour.

I meant no disrespect and hope I didn’t come off as bad mouthing them, I checked them out and they look good. After gfc boomed in popularity, there seems to be a ton of new companies, oru, toppo topper etc.

yes oru offers a blanket insulation kit but the project m is actually built with insulation like a house and they offer an insulation kit as well.

the issue with new companies however great their product is, just like any new generation of car or truck there will be kinks to be worked out

for example with gfc they’re version 2 worked out most kinks although I hear some people still have issues with water intrusion I never did luckily, also with them I think them being as basic as you can is a pro and con. I can honestly see a gfc lasting 10 years plus because of how basic it is. With these new other companies that have attractive features as options (fans, solar, side windows) there’s more points of failure.

No Worries, yeah a lot of competition in the camper market these days. It's great for the consumer.

I agree, every new product will come with new design or manufacturing flaws early on. I worked with Toyota & Lexus for 12 years and even they could not make a perfect new generation of Tacoma & etc.

One thing I recognized when they started this business was that it's extremely difficult to build something very clever and attractive that is meant to camp out of and remain on the back of a moving truck at all times. It's best to keep things simple.

One thing as a consumer I would like to see these new companies have a video explaining their manufacturing and engineering processes, most of them don’t even show how they clamp the camper on. If I’m going to drop over 10k on a camper I need the confidence of it being built robust and not Mickey Moused overnight. What I like about gfc is their mounting/clamp system and how their frame system is built similar to Amish or Japanese joint carpentry.

I don’t have one but a buddy of mine has one on a 23 TRD. We’ve been camping together and his works like a dream. I’m more than a little jealous.
