My neighbor is offering me some Cooper sttp pro maxx 265/70/17 tires that are like new. Currently running 285/70/17s anyone ever try 265s? what should I expect if I run them? Put one beside my current BFGs on the wheel and the tire appeared to be very similar in size.

Those seem small for a Tundra. That's more like a Tacoma size. Were your BFGs sitting under the weight of your truck when you did the comparison? They squish down about an inch or so when they are, depending on tire pressure. Things you could expect with 265s include:
    Skipped leg day appearance
Speedo will be off, you'll be going slower than it displays
Rougher ride because of less sidewall
Sidewall profile might look funny depending on how wide your 17" wheels are

Also could have handling implications during normal driving, loaded down, and towing, if the load range doesn't match your stock 285s, which are probably E range.

Some here have reported issues with ABS, TPMS, and traction control when switching to larger than stock tires. Not sure if you'd open yourself up to anything like that going with smaller ones.
