got a 2018 limited with less than 5000 miles. Got 2 spots on the passenger seat and one on the driver where the color coating on top of the leather has flakes along the grain. The pic makes it look like a gouge or puncture, but that’s just my crappy pic.

I have 2017 leather. Can’t really see by the pic. I’ve been good with my seats - about 11,000 miles.

I would have your dealer look at it. Dealer replaced my steering wheel (coating was flaking) and my sun visor under the bumper-bumber warranty.

No leather here but I had issues with the fabric fraying on my cloth seats. Started at about 8000 miles. I took it to dealer and they replaced as a one-time courtesy. They made a really big point about it being one time. I what’d them look at it early but took my time getting it replaced. 500 miles later it started back up. The dealer said they’d never seen that. They said they’d inspect it st my next oil change and if it’s still doing it they will call Toyota. Short story is that they tried to blame it on me. Said I must have tools in my pockets or something. Definitely take it to the dealer but be prepared for them to give you a hard time about it. Good luck!

No issues with mine. I deep clean it with Leatherique when it's nice and hot out. It's a bit pricey, but hey your vehicle is an investment right?

They way they do that bonded leather now days I'm scared of. Number 1 reason I went with cloth. It may be a bad bonding job from the manufacturer of the leather. I haven't seen good quality leather in a vehicle since I had my 2003 M5 which was full grain. I think most car companies now days have gone cheap on the leather and have moved to the bonded leather/vinyl. Good luck with it regardless, shouldn't have done that so soon.

LOL!!!, Yeah I know they are dirty right now, New dark blue jean have been rubbing off on them for the last few weeks and we have been have cold and rain day after day which is odd for this time of year so I have not cleaned the leather in about a month. I actually use Adam's leather cleaner and generously apply Adam's Leather conditioner after. Usually don't have to use the cleaner, but every 3-6 months, but condition it every month. Usually a wet microfiber towel will take off anything on the seat.

I just got this truck in December bc the wife wanted something with more space after we had our fist kid and began making trips back to her parents 7 hours away. Before the Tundra I had a 2016 Tacoma Limited with leather seats and no issues there at all. As a matter of fact I have never had anything but cars with leather seats and never had an issue until the car was over 250,000 miles and 10+ years old and you expect some wear to begin showing up.

Ive got the same color leather as you in my 2017 w/ 11000 miles. No marks like that; however, I do hate how blue jeans seem to mark the seats on the side closest to the door where my fat ass slides out.

I need to find a good leather cleaner that doesn’t stink.

Well went to the dealer over the weekend. They took pics and sent them to toyota. Now I have to go back and let the service director look. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. Any of you ever been down this road with other stuff?

Yep. They’ve got to decide if it’s wear and tear or a factory defect. Totally a judgment call for the dealer. They’ll probably give you a hard time. But hold your ground and stand firm that no seat material should be flawed this quickly. It’s not like you’re putting barbed wire in your pockets!!

Yeah they said they sent it to "toyota" and they came back with "its normal wear for a truck with 4500 miles...they are willing to cover half...makes my half $873". I said give me the # for toyota. Called and they said no record of the dealer entering it in the system and the district making any judgement for the case. Wanted me to go back to the dealer. Said no way, played the voice mails they left me with the details and toyota immediately opened a case and they are beginning to investigate. So maybe we will get somewhere. If not I spoke to the General manager today and said this is the second limited model truck I have bought in 18-20 months from your dealership and and my wifes car is a 2016 land cruiser so I am obviously a return customer to toyota and now your dealership. Either seats get fixed no cost to me and I get a warranty to cover their work, or we trade the truck and I don't care how they make it work but the same or lower payment, same or better loan terms, and I just put a spray in bed liner 2 weeks ago so they are going to comp on install one bc all the other accessories I can pull off and install on the next one.

Ahh...so what happened, Well basically there was a lot of arguing and me telling them to go to hell. The next day drove to the dealers used car lot and got a trade quote and was more than I paid for the truck new by about $1000. Got the lot GM and told him what was going on and told him what the issue was, That's all talked about in a previous post I believe. He ask that I call Toyota national again now that a case should have been open and let it trickle down to him.

Made the call and they start the process with a new case manager and seeing what can be done. In the end the Toyota district is covering half and Toyota national is covering the other half.

Glad their taking care of it. It’s bad that it was such a pain. Hope my leather holds up.

I have same color leather in my Toyota Sequoia with 2800 miles and it’s doing the same thing. A quick google search led me to this post. What did you find out?
