Anyone else get a whistle when they close ac vents on the dash?

When I ride alone I usually shut the passenger side ac vents so that my side cools off faster. In the Tundra I get a significant whistle sound when I do this? Anyone know a cure for this?

Also, I notice that the vents dont like to hold their position very well, usually dropping down as the air volume increases. Any fix for that? New vents an option?

    Thanks

    Gary

Doctor, it hurts when I do this...

Seems like the increase in velocity you desire is too much for the vents to supply quietly.

I'll try to take mine out later today and see if I can replicate.

I imagine new vents would stay in position better. Hopefully replacements are available without having to replace half of the dash... otherwise, if they can be disassembled to the point of accessing the pivot points, application of petroleum jelly or fairly thick grease would handle it.

Mine whistles depending on certain configurations of closed percentage and which one(s) and air flow setting. Never tried to fix it, but it's a minor whistle in my case and I just adjust the vent slightly to stop it.

Well fixed the floppy vent by pulling off the adjuster tab and putting electrical tape on each side. Nice and tight now the way I like it. ;) I will figure out how to stop the whistle another day.

Most of these vents have some type of foam gasket on the damper which degrades over the years and causes the whistle.

Oh yea, happens the second I close any one of them other than the leftmost one. I try to close the front ones so the air to the rear gets stronger for my dog in summer but the whistle drives me nuts. Sorry doggo

Yep this is what I figured as well. When I took apart my dashboard I got a good look at the damper. On the edges there is a slot for a piece of thin foam that creates a good seal. Mine fell apart at my touch.
