I have done this to all my last 3 Subaru's and never had a check engine light for evaporation problems.

Just wondering if the Tundra's are the same??

I can get another 1.7 gallons in my Outback making right @ 19 gallons which carries me sometimes to 700+ miles on a single fill-up.

Can the Tundra be called on to do that also?? (*maybe not the mileage, but the extra long driving*)

    I await you....

No, donotdo. Let the pump click off and call it good. Plenty of threads on here outlining what happens if you don’t.

Most of the time (99%) when the pump clicks the first time it's done, but sometimes I pull a TFL truck and wait a few seconds then squeeze one more time until the pump clicks again. But that is about it.

Toyota doesn’t get down on it… your rollover valve will get stuck shut, which makes filling your tank a nightmare. To fix it, the dealer will replace the entire gas tank. Usually this happens at your expense. There are some less-pricey work-around a, but it’s mean disabling (removing) the roll-over valve… a potentially life-saving piece of equipment.

With the mileage my truck gets I can't see the point in even trying; each gallon would gain me maybe 17 or 18 miles. I mean, it's a 38-gallon tank. I just don't see the benefit of forcing another gallon or whatever into it for whatever little gain and the potential problems.

It also pushes gas back into the nozzles overflow, wasting your money. Click once and done.

not a good idea on vehicles with modern emission systems. The venting on modern tanks is not to the atmosphere, it’s captured in the evap system. Over filling the tank puts liquid fuel into the system, it is not designed for that and will cause damage.

There is a mechanism in the fuel tank/fill tube (I don’t know where it’s at exactly) that is designed to prevent fuel from leaking out the gas tank fill tube in the event the truck rolls. Once this mechanism is triggered then you’re screwed. Overfilling the tank can trigger it.

When the pump clicks off I squeeze it again. And then again. And maybe a third time if gas prices are low at that time. I want every ounce of less expensive fuel I can get. Been doing that since 1995. Never a single issue. There've been times that last gallon was what got me to a fuel station when I was running out far from home with the fuel light on.

Now you guys are making me paranoid. Lol.

Really?? You've got a 38 gallon tank and you're trying to squeeze one more gallon in? What am I missing here?

I just run it until it clicks. It’s already $85 dollars to fill up, I don’t need any more pennies added on lol.

It’s also pertinent to note that I’ve never been able to put more than 32 gallons in the tank from empty, even if I run the truck until I’m pretty sure it’s running on fumes (32.8 is the most, to be precise). Must be a reserve in the tank or an idiot proofing design so people don’t run out of gas. I think there are some threads around here about it.

Anyway, to avoid all this nonsense I just try to stop for gas at 1/4 tank and fill it until it clicks, and if I don’t stick to that plan and run it close to E at least I know I’m never really as close to running out of gas as it seems I am.

I'm curious about this. So, do you know if one does as you say and fills up until a click, then leaves the station and then has to stop at a stoplight on a fairly steep hill right outside the station or even climb or descend a grade, would that not cause fuel to change position and act in the same way as an overfull tank? I would think the same would apply to the check valve or rollover valve as well. Just curious because from many of your posts you appear to know quite a bit and your knowledge sharing is appreciated. Care to help me better understand?

It's only one extra squeeze and done after waiting 10-20 seconds from the initial click. If you watch TFL truck that is how they test every vehicle. Not an issue and not an overfill. YMMV.

Don't do it. The pump shutoff is there for a reason. Someone on here flooded their evap system doing that.

My pump only allows me to put $125 in a single transaction, so I never even get to hear a "click" anymore. I get about 28 gallons before it shuts down the pump. I'm not going to put my cc in twice every time I fill up so I just go with it. It's ridiculous., But I don't even think about it anymore. When my gas light goes on, I go to the gas station. When the pump shuts off, I get what I get and move on. With that method, I fill up 2x a month consistently. I'm good with that. Safeties are there to listen to, if not, we'd complain we don't have them to begin with.

Thanks Lads, for all the replies.

Like I said - I've been doing the total to the brim fill-up on all my Subaru's without incident.

Toyo must have different ideas towards the evap system.

I'm kewl for that. - no worries.

I’ve noticed that my truck does not like to be fueled with the gas nozzle on full blast. It clicks off early every time. I don’t have a pinched filler neck or anything. Some pumps don’t do it, but it seems most do for me. Because I will notice it drops from full tank rather quickly when I do this. So I just have a habit now of putting it on the first click of the filler nozzle and I get a full tank every time. I let it shut off and that’s good enough for me.

Yeah. I understand. I actually tend to fill when it's convenient, and when I stretch the truck or a bike to the limit I never seem to find a place that's convenient. I've passed gas stations on the FJR while traveling trying to make two gas stops instead of three on the day and found myself hoping like crazy to make that next station that turns out to be 20 miles away. LOL My truck is almost exclusively for pulling our travel trailer, and I tend to fill it up while it's unhooked to keep from dragging that trailer through gas stations. If I unhook and drive into town for the evening I'll fill it up unless I know I can get home with the trailer on what's in it.

We're all different in our wants and needs. Whatever works.

I've experienced that. I put in on full-tilt-boogie until it clicks off then slow until it clicks again. It's usually immediate, but sometimes it goes a while. I won't fill it to the brim, but I will let it click once more.

Yes, because if you've put in 37 and you're 15 miles from a gas station on a desolate interstate, what you gonna' do then? LOL

This isn't rocket science. The more fuel the better.

Plan just a little bit and carry a gas can or even two if there are any doubts. Pretty EZ!

    Not sure at this point.
No, at that point, you’d get Jerry cans and start filling them up prior to entering the Interstate where the next gas station is miles away…

Or, buy fuel before you get in trouble. It is, indeed, not rocket science. ;)

I see you're in Kentucky. I was in Kentucky in last June on a motorcycle. It's a beautiful state, and I seem to remember no trouble finding fuel. Do you do a lot of wilderness or something where fuel is that hard to find?
