As I get older, and my co-pilot does as well, and, for sitting in a parking lot waiting for said co-pilot to get out of a store, I find it would be handy to have a method of turning on the footwell lights come on sans opening the dang pneumonia hole.

Anybody figured a way to do that?

The “dang pneumonia hole”, now that’s a good one. I like it. Wish I could be more help with your question but I’m too busy rolling on the floor laughing. Good luck.

Okay, I’ve got my composure back now, what you’re asking for wouldn’t be reinventing the wheel, basic 12v knowledge could definitely hot wire that bulb to a keyed wire in the dash, but then you’d be looking at a switch being added on your dash somewhere, kinda overkill in my mind. If I were you I’d grab a $3.00 push light from autozone and keep it in your glovebox or zip tie it to the underside of your seats...

    dang pneumonia hole....bwhahahaha.....

Well here is the deal, I just ordered a set of footwheel VLEDs, and I know there is a way to rig a switch to have them operate as designed, then go to another position to turn it on, do double Pole double throw switches work like that?

I do believe double throws do work like that but I think you lack the constant power to do that like every switch needs. There’s only two wires going into the bulb, positive and ground. If you throw a switch along the positive, you would lack power when the door is closed to turn it on. Whatever turns that tiny bulb on is triggered by the door opening, which then sends power to the wire supplying the bulb. You need to figure out a way to implement a keyed power, switched, into the positive wire powering it...

Did you wire them to the light under the dash on the driver side?

I was going to when they get here, just ordered.

I actually wondered if I could patch into the dome lights for no more draw than would be required and then I could operate them with the interior switch.

That's the way to do it. VLED's makes a kit for the Tundra and it turns on and off with the switch and doors.

Yup, there’s a solution, that tiny bulb couldn’t account for much draw at all, especially a new led

I don't find anything on their site that mentions a kit to wire into the inside light system, just plugging it into the existing light socket, am I just missing it? Figured I could chase down the hot wire for the inside lights cut the end off the VLEDs and hook to there and run the other side to ground?

No need to cut. The link I provided to vleds includes bulb adapter so you remove the bulb and plug it in.

I think that just ties to the existing door opening switch, does not allow you to turn on with the door closed.

What I am trying to accomplish is to be able to turn them on with the door closed like you can the overhead lights. Old farts drop stuff whilst waiting on SWMBO.

Could I run a line from the "hot" side of the interior light switch to the feed of the footwell circuit, and put a diode in line to keep from back feeding the hot side of the existing circuit?

I was thinking of hooking the VLEDS to the dome light circuit, not just the single existing bulb. Just doing the front seat area.

I don’t have much experience with diodes (other than swapping my ALT fuse for one so that it sends me more voltage) but that sounds right to me. Simple t-tap from hot, dome switched wire, to footwell bulb, should give you both a switched bulb and a courtesy bulb all-in-one.
