I just had Lasik and after wearing glasses the last three years and missing my shades I ordered two more pair of Oakley’s. I’ve got issues.
Any other sunglass collectors out there?

I have 3 pairs of Oakley‘s, a set of Hovens for work. One set of Spys and a couple of old sets of Electric sunglasses. Rain or shine, I leave the house with sunglasses. Sometimes they’re on my forehead and with the raise of my eyebrows they drop down in the place ready for action. It would take a lot of sunglasses for me to think I have too many.

I have light eyes and bright light tends to bother the shit out of me.

Electric, Smith and Oakley here. Probably around 20ish pairs. A few more than my “watch collection.”

I've gone thru my fair share of high dollar sun glasses. Best I've ever had, by far are any with the Costa Del Mar 580G lens. Stupid expensive, but wow. And best of all, the lens is glass (hence the "G" designation). Find a local rep that sells these and they'll probably do the key test; pick out a style you like and they'll grab their keys from their pocket and try to scratch the lens. Nope. Nothing. When they say "scratch proof", they really mean it. Big deal for those of us who like to use their tshirt to clean their glasses :D

Oakley’s and ray bans. My last pair are a set of Oakley Holbrook XL. The XL came out last year I think for those with fat heads like mine.

As I understand it, you can send them in and for something like $30 they'll repair (or most of the time replace) them, if they charge you anything.

Only one pair currently. Oakley is my brand. Lost a pair of Juliet's. Broke a pair of jackets. Now I have the original flak. Looking to add a second pair soon. Probably flak 2.0 or the half jacket

My weak spot but think I am covered for now. Was a Maui Jim addict for years but then moved on to Costa. Still have 2 pairs of my older Maui Jims that still get worn along with 4 pairs of regular Costas and 2 pairs of prescription Costas. Finally have a pair of Oakley's specifically for golf.

    I have a problem

I've been wearing Costa's for years and years now. Send quite a few pairs back for return with good results. Typically the only issue I've had is with the rubber pieces.

I see the Oakley kool aid is strong. Lol. I cant stand them. None of them fit me well and they scratch easily I find.

I'm a Smith fan. Last pair went for 10 years and are still used as the beater pair in my truck. I'm looking at Ray-Ban or Maui Jim for a pair of dressier shades though.

Always had great experience with the few returns I had. Most recently I had stumbled across a new pair of 400G lenses when they were phasing those out for $50. About a year later I noticed a crack in them but the crack was inside the lens if that make sense. Sent them back and they replaced with a 580G lens

Have a different pair for every activity.

Yard work = beat up Oakleys (every pair I’ve owned scratched easily and became a beater pair within a few months)
    Work = Rayban
Fishing = Costa (soon to be replaced by Smith optic since Costa quality has gone downhill and I’m tired of sending them in every year for warranty work)

I’m looking for a pair of glass lens sunnies and was eyeballing the costa tunas. Are there other companies I should be looking at for glass lenses?

Not if scratch resistance is a priority. Ask that same sales rep to run the key test on any other pair in the store and they'll decline with a laugh.

Also, to my eyes, the polarization of the Costas are top tier too and if you spend any time around water, none better for cutting that specific kind of glare.

PS: No I don't sell these things. Just a fan.

I probably have about 5 pairs of $20 specials, but I couldn't tell you where a single pair is. That's the thing. I can't see spending good money on something that consistently disappears into the alternate universe. And don't even get me started on the great object-sucking powers of the river where I boat.

I think I'm going to tape a hello-note to my missing socks on my next pair.

Oakley's! That's all I have worn for the last 25 years.
Some were free/issued, others I have got at Oakley Standard Issue. If you are LEO, MIL, Retired from either or a Disabled Vet it can get you anywhere between 40% to 60%.

I've always had the plastic lenses. I tried glass but they are too heavy and hurt my head/ears after 8-10+ hours on the water.

Maui Jim might be the only other glasses I would try. Very high quality.

While active duty I used to buy a handful of shades from the dollar store because I kept losing or destroying them. Towards the end of my career they started issuing Oakley’s and wileyX. Just before retirement I bought a set of Costa Del Mar Brines polarized and stuck with them. I’m currently on my second set cause when working on my truck I stepped on my first pair and broke them, I've been wearing costas daily for over 9 yrs. I do have a couple of Oakleys that my kids bought me as gifts that I wear from time to time.
