So I have the Orbi RK50 system and I’m tired of this things showing no internet connection for WiFi. The computer that’s plugged in thru the Ethernet cable works perfectly fine. I tried calling orbi but they just told me to reset everything which didn’t work. Who can help me out? Or have any ideas. I don’t wanna really can it as I paid 300 bucks in November for it so hopefully I can get it to work

I was able to use it on Saturday and checked updates and it was up to date thru the app. When it works it’s awesome I get reception everywhere and speeds are good since I have charter.

Not too familiar with the Orbi, how does it get its internet feed? Like do you have a router or modem from your ISP wired to it? You said it was working, for how long before it stopped?

I thought the idea of the dedicated frequency for for multiple access points to communicate, leaving the normal WiFi frequencies avail for devices was great for a large house. Unfortunately, I tried two different versions of the Orbi and found the reception to be worse than just one cheapo router - TP-Link off Amazon. I returned both units to costco. I've tried multiple netgear devices for internet/home WiFi and have never had success with them.

So I have internet thru cable company so they gave me a router? That I just connected to my computer thru Ethernet wire. Then I added the orbi so I could have WiFi and it worked maybes for 6 months and now nothing at all. I never really bothered with it as we have another source of WiFi at the house but it’s super slow and sucks. So that’s why I want the other one fixed cuz it’s a lot faster.

Did you recently update the PC or FW on the router from your cable company? You could try going from router to Orbi. Reboot the router, once up for a few, plug in the Orbi and let it boot up. See if you get any internet after that boot sequence. Also, if you dont have any special settings on your router, like MAC filtering, try a factory reset of it but I'd probably check with your cable company first to see if that would mess anything up on their end.

I work in IT (Cybersecurity), and have a decent home lab. I'm sure we can figure something out.
    • What is the population density where you live?
    • Are there a lot of people near you, if you "search" for wifi do you see a lot of other networks near you? If so, do a lot of them have a similar name?
    • Are you comfortable installing an app like "wifiman" by Unifi to get a look at the channel usage.
    • How many devices are connected to your wifi?

If you're stacking the Orbi on top of the cable company's modem/router combo, it's possible that you're running into an IP conflict on the two. This used to happen a lot before brands started using different default IPs, like 192.168.1.1.

You will probably be better off factory resetting it and starting from scratch.

Also, for what it's worth, I'm running the Orbi with two satellites and it's been amazing for me. The only thing I had to change outside of the out of the box config was the daisychaining option, as my satellites would sometimes piggyback on each other and make the mesh eat shit.

hmm... That could be an issue, but I wouldn't expect it to work for a while and then degrade (I might be mis-understanding if it worked in the first place). It sounds like support had him reset it already.

The "other networks are what I'm refering to when asking about the similar name. Those are generally default from the ISP and aren't smart enough to run on another channel. Looks like you may have more networks near you. It's hard to say if the channel is being saturated until I see a screenshot of wifiman or similar app. I'll have to look into the system some more to understand the options that are available, as I run Unifi at home which is more of a pro-consumer/business grade device.

What's your wireless environment like? lot of neighbors?

If you're on Android you can use Wifi Overview 360 Pro, it will show you all the wifi signals around and help find what channel is best.

Or leech off a neighbor who left default password on.

I went through 2 TP Link devices in less than a year. Radios died on them. No radio signal broadcaster at all. I got Cisco wifi cert so I know a bit about these things.

Ended up going to Asus RT-AC1900P. I get a 20% increase in wifi signal at the location where my wifi's desktop is over what TPLink junk was putting out.

Orbi should be decent at fending off the neighbors via switching channels - at least enough to not crash.

Have you tried running the ISP provided modem/router in bridge mode, and using the Orbi as the router?

With FiOS - I had Verizon enable the ethernet jack on my ONT (outside house), and run a Cat6 straight into my Google Wifi. No ISP provided equipment. For cable its different, to a degree, but you can still usually bridge through to your own equipment.

    Solid blue, magenta or amber?
