Hey everyone, I'm a brand new tundra owner and brand new to the forums!

I bought a used 2014 and there is this button on the left side of the dash and I cannot figure out what it does! Has anyone seen it before?

If you get it to work, I’m pretty sure it’s the one and only thing this site does not want a picture of.

Are there any aftermarket lights? Anywhere, including grill, wheel wells, under truck, etc?

That is certainly not factory. I would bet it was a switch for off-road lights.

look behind the dash where the button is. You will probably see the wires taped or capped. They probably removed the lights before selling the vehicle.

if you do see taped or capped wires, be careful. They could still be energized and cause interesting problems if they accidentally ground.

Yeah, pop the hood and see if there’s wires running to where a lite bar would be in the grille.

Then like @Jchetty said, check if they’re hot. If so track em back and disconnect. Or buy a sweet lite bar and lite it up.

That button reminds me of a nitrous system button. And that makes me wonder if anyone has ever put a nitrous system in a tundra:monocle:

It amazes me how many folks will buy a truck and then try to figure out the Jerry rigged shit later.

I looked at a Tundra that had air bags. 1st thought was nope it has been a tow rig I’ll keep looking even if it was wired properly.
Then I saw the wiring nightmare under the hood for the tank/compressor and then I opened the center console to see the wiring for the gauge and switch.

I did not even want to know what other sorts of torture that poor truck had been through.

Exactly - and in this stupid market with everything priced absurdly high too - there are plenty of reasons to have a pro check out any used car your seriously considering paying say over 25k for.

Not to distract from the OP post here or say that is the case involving their truck. Just a general observation. A couple of years ago I checked out a 2 year old truck - obvious had a rats nest of wires under the hood - pointed out to sales person and got the “hmm - I will let service know” - yea right…no doubt they just clipped them to be less visible…

I am leery of late model used for this very reason - just too many idiots taking otherwise fine trucks and screwing up suspensions trying to get a few inches of lift - and then dumping them onto uneducated buyers (after pulling their mods when they realize it didn’t work as expected.

Same people will go nuts how they won’t buy a car that was in an accident (with copies of the estimate showing it was just a mirror or bumper or properly repaired by a reputable shop) - but how them a clean Carfax and a truck with some poorly installed low grade mods and they have no problem. To me it’s the opposite - if I see a pro did the job, it puts my mind at ease.

At a point though - you gotta take your chances. I mean a 2 year old truck is one thing - a 12 year old truck…it’s a crapshoot any way you play it.
