Amp Research XL for Tundra

I am be the only one trying to inquire if AMP Research will make the XL version for the Tundra. I tried in another Tundra forum to see if others will help influence and spark the fire in the company to build a set for us Tundra owners.

I think the main difference is the XLs put the step lower to help with lifted trucks. I don't know if they still offer them, but they used to sell optional extensions for the original power steps which accomplished the same thing.

I have been trying to get AMP Research to produce it since July but to no avail. I can not blame them but if there is enough pressure. If the demand is higher then maybe it will happen.

 

I don't see why they would hesistate. If most tundra owners don't see them then they probably aren't going to bother them about it. But I will lol

 

If I bought the regular AMP and only did the 2.50 or 3" lift would the XL benefit me or is the regular fine!

 

Silly Amp would make them for Ford f150's, the platinum models comes with them from the factory as an option which I believe they are a Ford product. I would think amp would manufacture them for other makes instead.

 

I would not know exactly because I do not have one. The XL however will fit my desired needs but it is not produced yet.

That is my gut feeling as to why it is not in the priority list to produce it for Tundra. We are neglected by affiliation

 

The concept is a Rock Slider type integration. I am not inquiring because it extends lower but because it acts as a ROCK SLIDER.

 

AMP Research™ has released the PowerStep XL™, an automatic, electric-powered running board designed for lifted trucks. The board has been integrated into a custom rocker rail, creating a seamless look while providing a 3” lower stepping surface than the original PowerStep™ that makes accessing lifted trucks easier.

 

I have the regular ones (without the extensions) on 3/1. For me, its pretty dang perfect. Again, if you need them lower, you can add extensions to make them extend 2" lower.

I'm a bit dubious as to the effectiveness of the "slider" part on the XL, beyond the cosmetic. Should you actually have to "use" the slider part, it would surely destroy the step part.

i have the amp steps on my 8" lifted excursion and on my 6" lifted tundra. both with out extensions. the boards on the ford extend easily an inch to 1.5 lower then the boards on the tundra. i'd like them to go down further but when you add the extensions it causes them to hang lower when "tucked" and visually it looks dumb. i love the boards. one of the best mods i've done to both my trucks

How far down does the non XL extend?

 

From the top of the door seal to the top of the step is 11 1/2"

i would guess looking at this then from the lowest portion of the truck to the step it would be half...

Ya I would say that's a solid guess. I'll be honest, on a level, it's awesome on the back. Hell, even on a lift its nice on the back. And the wife wouldn't gripe at me for her vertical disability lol.

What... you have 2 of them? where do I sign up.... I'll cook and clean but no reach around!!! I think it would look solid on the cement! I like to be different so I would probably take a set to the line-x dudes and have them done white then put them up. It would be badass.

 

Like @bobeast said, I'm sure they beefed these up a bit to be "sliders" but I'd be too scared to smash my $3000 electric steps onto rocks.
