Looking into getting these power steps and wanted to get the override switch too. Amp website has 3 different switch options. I read all the install instructions but still can’t figure out which one is required/compatible. There are 2 with controllers and one with just the switch. Any help would be appreciated.

I have these steps... just curious what need you have for the over ride? Legit question not trying to be rude or anything. They can remain down by shutting the door and just keeping your foot on it when it would normally retract.

I was wondering the same .......these are on my wish list and I didn't know that keeping the foot on it when you close the door keeps them out. How do they go in after that, do you just open and close the door again?

I have the AMP steps and I have the override ordered. Was on back order as far as I know, shop is doing the install.

The reason I'm getting the switch is for the winter time. We've had slush in the past that can freeze, so the switch would allow me to turn off the steps from running in those situations. I don't want to burn out my motor.

Now that makes perfect sense thank you for sharing. I figured there had to be a reason they offer it just couldnt think of it in my case. In your scenario that would prob ensure the life of the motor on them as well.

I'm not sure. My buddy that owns a shop is doing the install for me. The part was on back order, he just received it Thursday. He's out of town for the weekend but I'll talk to him Monday and find out what switch he ordered.

Just curious where those of you who installed the switch ran the wire to get into into the cab?

I've had the powersteps for almost a year now - they're great. I was going to get the override switch, but changed my mind. Turns out, the override switch is moronic. The switch will only keep the steps up or down for 30 minutes or after turning off/on the engine, then they'll start working again when opening/closing the door (still not sure how that's possible if the switch is physically flipped...but whatever). That's moronic to me. If I want them up all the time, they should stay up all the time. Down all the time, they should stay down. A switch that only works temporarily for 30 mins or an engine restart is useless. I actually called AMP and asked them about it - lol it bugged me that much. They said it's a "safety feature." Which doesn't make much sense to me.

I've been throwing around the idea of just making my own switch. I'd make two switches - one for each side of the truck. The truck is lifted and personally love jumping up in that thing. I never use the steps. I got them for passengers...especially my vertically challenged daughter. I'd keep my step up and her's down.
