I hear you! Marketing and Finance major plus MBA......if people would do the math and look at how much more they pay, we’d have a lot less debt in this world!

I can’t imagine how some people will finance a vehicle without thinking twice about it.
We both know it’s unavoidable with houses, student loans, etc. but nowadays people want a new car every 2-4 years. You buy 15 new cars in your life, and finance all vehicles. How much wasted money have you spent for the shiny red ball syndrome?

Now if that doesn’t matter to people, that’s fine. Your money, your choice.....but it tears me up LOL

If you can't pay cash in full up front, monthly payments are a necessary evil. Ending monthly payments early is to be encouraged & congratulated. Good job!

Exactly! I made a decision about 25 years ago to switch from managing debt to managing assets. As a result, I have been debt-free (except for the house/farm) for some time now and that includes the 2018 Tundra.

    Oh, and congratulations!

That’s how to think about it IMO!
You, sir, have achieved what Doc and I want!
After you crunch the numbers, it’s amazing how much money you actually have at the end of the month debt free, than you do with debt!
Even a truck payment is an extra 4000-7000 a year. People can do all kinds of things with that money other than sinking it into a truck (won’t even get started on interest)

Another way to look at it: Assets pay interest, debts charge interest. I took a cold hard look at what premium I was paying to buy things using debt (credit) and it is eye-opening. I worked my way into a position where I ONLY consider a purchase once I have saved adequately to do so. As a part of this process, I have put away assets to deal with unplanned expenses (appliances frapping, auto repair [even though our Toyotas are likely not to need it], etc.). Our kids are out on their own and it is just me and my wife on our small farm.

This is a struggle and it took a long time. But, right now (I'm 69 years old and still working full time as a professional engineer), I have no need for credit or a credit rating.

    Life is good.

I was fortunate. I moved back home after my first real job for two years and got mine paid off. Now it's just the house and truck.

    Not nearly enough room here!
When we paid our's off, we just continued making the same payments like nothing happened. The next year, Wife's Pilot was paid off, kept making those payments too. Two years later, home is paid off, payments never stopped though. Now, Wife and I are both retired and debt free. It took 50 years working for a paycheck but Bless God, it got done!:oldglory:

LOL no, Dave Ramsey is a financial radio guy. He talks a lot about debt and being debt free.

    Wrote a few books.
