My 2015 is the same with oddly enough a genie as well. Tried everything then said the hell with it.

    None, yet....
Something to keep in kind, garage openers only have a couple slots available for remotes. If those slots are full, then there is nothing you can do, short of deleting all of them and reprogramming the ones you actually use. May not be an issue with your truck or your process, your garage door opener may just be "full".

I was originally trying to set mine up with an aftermarket, non-genie, remote. For the life of me, I couldn’t get it to work. I started everything over with an OEM Genie remote and it worked on the first try. Give it a shot with a different remote, if you haven’t yet.

I had to use the rolling code method and press the button 3 times. Pushing twice did not work. Tacoma was same.

My problem with home link is I can open my garage door with the key out of the ignition. Does me no good as I park the truck in the driveway. Called Home link and they say there is nothing that can be done. I know in one omg previous Tacoma's I was only able to use it with the ignition on.

yeah, when I tried to setup this up on my tundra, I found that the manual was missing a step. I used this video to get it setup:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvoKBm7h3aY

the missing step was to set the garage door opener on learn mode to accept the signal from the tundra.

    good luck.

I also had to set my garage door openers into learn mode because they are the "rolling code" type. If I recall, you still have to point the remote to the homelink and follow that procedure, then press the learn button on the garage door opener, then go back to the homelink buttons. It's a bit of a pain.

The steps for a rolling code opener are in the manual. With this method you do not use the remote for the door. The bad part is, unless you have a helper, is you have to push the learn button on the opener. Typically after you do you have 30 seconds to get in to the truck and push the Homelink button and hold 2 seconds 2 or 3 times. My opener requires 3 times. I do not mind the Homelink being active without the key in. If I had a remote in the truck it would not have to have the key in to work. I park my truck in the driveway. If I want to feel more secure I can lock the truck doors.

    Everything. Literally.
You realize that if you set this up and somebody steals your truck they now have access to your house....

Most people keep the garage door remote in their vehicles too. I don't know anyone who brings the remote into their house or keeps it on their person. we have these features for convenience and I suppose that is the risk you take. Maybe if they had Bluetooth garage door openers, then we could use our phones to open the garage door. The homelink feature is no less secure than leaving the remote in the vehicle. If someone does steal the vehicle, you can always clear the opener or change the code.

I use my phone to open my garage over wifi. I have an app that allows me to see if and when the garage door was opened. The brand is a Chamberlain.

Had Homelink problems with our 2017 Subaru Outback and the 2017 tundra on a year old garage door opener. Both vehicles were a major pain in the ass and I cannot tell you exactly what I did because I followed the instruction and tried several other things and I dont have a damn clue which one did the trick. I love having it on the mirror and both vehicles work after they are turned off.

Revisited this and tried the video method to the T thinking I may have missed something and on the 3rd time it worked. Not sure why as I did everything the same each time, not going to look a gift horse in the mouth though, we'll see how long it lasts.

Has anyone ever figured out a mod to only power the homelink when the key is on/acc?

I use a key chain remote, so it’s with me all the time.
I never set those home link to any of my vehicles.
You left you car in driveway and people just open your door and open the garage.
You might as well leave your key on you door...

I had the same issue programing and after a lot of time and aggravation I found out that my garage opener was too old to support newer version of Homelink and I had to replace my openers.

As an add on for future problems, I recently found that LED bulbs have interference with the remote signals on the Genie Belt drive units. Some put out a frequency that interferes with the signal reception from the head unit on the opener. I had to change the LED bulbs on the opener to "Low Interference LED" bulbs in order for the homelink to work consistently. The remotes always worked, just the homelink was limited. The Homelink worked intermittently, and was driving me nuts.

I have a problem with mine too. When I use the wall mounted opener to open the door when I leave in the morning or any time if I don't pull out right away when I get out of the garage and hit the homelink to close it it will not close and I have to get out of the truck to close it on the keypad mounted on the outside of the garage. Anyone else with this problem ?

I haven't tried linking mine yet nor will I ever. The truck stays on the driveway so I don't want anyone breaking in the car and have access to my garage. I have thousands of dollars worth of tools in there. What I do is I have MyQ so I just use the app to open the garage. Also the LED is true, it does interfere with the opener. I even heard some people are having problems using their truck remote from opening or locking due to them putting LED bulbs on the bed/3rd brake light .

This. But first make sure you follow the instructions for how to clear the Homelink in the truck before you try to connect to your opener.

Edit: I found the instructions...To clear the Homelink settings in the truck, hold down the two outside buttons (i.e. #1 and #3) simultaneously for 20-30 seconds until the indicator light flashes.

This method to clear the Homelink is common for all vehicles. Hold the two outside buttons until the indicator flashes.
