For the last 3 years I've gotten hammered w/an illness in December/January. This year it's incapacitated me for over 2 weeks. Runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, coughing, headache, body aches, fatigue that turns into bronchitis & ear infection(s). I never really had allergies until 3 years ago. I moved into my current house about 4 years ago & there's about 200acres to my west of Mountain Cedar trees. There's also another 200 acres to my north (about .5 mile) of the same trees & this fall they starting bulldozing them for a new neighborhood. I did a little research & it appears I'm getting something called cedar fever.
Anybody else get cedar fever? What do you do to keep it @ a minimum?
It completely destroys me for 2+ weeks & I need a fix!

Thanks! I did start Flonase towards the end of Nov. & did 1 shot each. OTC version. I'm definitely getting w/an allergy specialist soon. This started about Dec. 22nd. & I still have clogged sinus', right ear 100% blocked, left ear about 50% blocked & a nasty cough. It was really bad for me this year. So far it's lasted about 25 days!

From a fellow Texan...I am definitely allergic to cedar dust (pollen?) One claritin/zyrtec and flonase keeps me breathing. This year, I have felt surprisingly good without the medication. I'm 24 and have struggled with this my entire life. I live in the DFW area and I find it gets worse when I go to Austin

Interesting....our cedars where I am grow in some pretty swampy conditions. I hunt right on the edge of one of these areas, and I seem to have similar symptoms for a couple of days after I spent a few hours out there......wonder if that's my issue?

Ya, it’s been terrible last few weeks in San Antonio on north wind days. I’ve been taking Zyrtec and the allergy relief drops specific to Texas/cedar fever daily since about November, but it got bad a few days ago and I broke down and got some Advil severe allergy/congestion pills, visine eye drops, Afrin allergy sinus and a vapor inhaler. Much better.

I’ve never had issues with cedar, but I used to struggle just to breathe every Spring. My windpipe would feel like it was about to close shut. My eyes would get so bad they’d be glued shut with gunk every morning. I got sick of stacking all these meds to tackle the symptoms.

Long story short, my allergies are 95% gone now because I eliminated processed sugar from my diet. Yes, that was as hard as it sounds. Not only is refined sugar (corn syrup, cane sugar, rice syrup, molasses, compounds ending in -ose, etc...) in EVERYthing, it’s highly addictive. Well worth the commitment, though.

I didn’t change anything else. I’m still exposed to the same allergens I was before. Middle TN is notoriously bad for allergies. But what you eat changes how your body reacts to external stimuli/substances.

Worth a shot if you’re sick of it (and the meds) every year like I was.

I’m must be allergic to something up here in WA, not likely cedar though. Sinus headaches with an touch of fluid in my ears this year. Been going on for months. Doctors like to prescribe Flonase but it makes my nose bleed and so I inevitably used it for a couple days and stopped. After two rounds of antibiotics that did nothing, finally tried nasacort instead of generic Flonase. It’s working well. Important for both options to use every day because they don’t start working for up to a week per the instructions. Good luck.

I second this. Zyrtec every morning and flonase if needed. It's changed my life lol
