I just received my Access Vanish Tonneau cover today and decided to install it tonight.
I have the deck rail system which made temporarily clamping the side rails in place next to impossible. What a fiddly little job it turned out to be. Then it started to rain on me halfway through. Anyways, it took me about 1hr 15min to get it the way I wanted. You guys that claim to be able to do it in 30 mins are just way superior.

Typically everything takes me longer than expected. I take my time and double check everything. OCD I guess. Rain, egh, that sucks. Good job though!

It always takes me way longer to do shit than what people claim it takes them to do the same thing. Swap a motor out in 27 minutes.....hell I just scratch my ass and get my first beer down in that amount of time.

Just do what needs doing. I'm 61 and have a fused back, full right knee replacement and rotater cuff surgery. I estimate it will take me 4 to 5 times as long as "estimated " for typical jobs. So what! At least I know it's done right.

My old man always told me however much time you think you're gonna get it done in, double it and add an extra 30 minutes for good measure. If you haven't figured it out by then, take it to a professional LOL

Everyone told me it takes about 2-3 hours to install front coilovers and rear shocks... 3 hours later and I was still trying to figure out how to loosen my LCA's.
It's not a race. I for one would rather spend a Saturday working on my truck than sitting on the couch.

All joking aside, I do really enjoy working on/playing in my truck with my little projects...I work from home and am in a hurry in my job too, like driverdog said, so I enjoy taking my time on projects...

Here's my typical 1 hour job. 10 mins setting up, 5 mins reviewing YouTube video, 5 mins looking for the 10mm socket, another 20 mins rewatching YouTube video 5 more times, 25 mins doing the work then 15 mins undoing everything because I screwed up step number one, 5 more mins looking for 10mm socket again, 10 more YouTube mins, 60 mins actually doing the work all over again, (there's the actual 1 hour job). Then if I'm lucky with no extra pieces leftover, 10 mins cleaning up and 5 mins sitting back marveling at my great work.

In this recent escapade, I spent 10 mins looking for a 1/2" socket. Every socket I picked up seemed to be 10mm. I think I found everyone's 10mm sockets that you are all misplacing.

I'll jump in, i'll tell my wife I'm going to mess around on the truck this morning. Her response... Good night, see ya tomorrow. It amazes me that in my line of work and the attention to detail that must be present, I'm a Bull in a China shop when I'm working at home or on my Tundra .I seem to have no patience. Then I go grab a beer to soothe my mind. :)

I learned a lot of hard lessons when I worked in the ship yard as well as when I was in the Navy. Being a squadron guy I learned tool control and still practice it at home. All of my tool draws are lined with a neoprene rubber and all of the tools are cut into the rubber. When I finish up a job I can immediately see if I forgot a tool that I was using.
    IMG_1840.jpg IMG_1841.jpg IMG_1842.jpg
Another thing I learned if something has multiple bolts, start all of them loosely before tightening anything down. If there is a specific torque sequence, follow it. If you have to force something you are probably going to break it. Have patience. If you loose your temper and break something it is going to cost you time or money to fix that which you broke.

Last thing, you can never have enough tools!

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
The following always happens when working on your truck:
    1. Something goes wrong or is more difficult than expected (like seized bolt).
    2. A tool that you need goes missing and magically reappears after you move on to another task.
    3. You always have something left over.
    4. You always get banged up or cut knuckles when wrenching or reaching for something.
    5. You always drop a bolt in a spot where it's hard to get.
    6. You always get dirt in your eye when under the truck.
    7. You always forget to loosen the lug nuts before lifting the truck up and then have to lower back down to get them started.
    8. .........
