    Everything. Literally.
So after I installed my lift, my truck won’t fit under my garage door. So I’m in the market for a better alarm than the one that came with the truck. This city has a serious problem with vehicle theft/break-ins. And a remote start, because winter. I’ve heard that there are systems out there that do both..?
    Anybody have anything like that?

And if there aren’t combinations of the two, anybody have any recommendations for alarm systems and/or remote starts?
The remote start I had in my last truck caused all kinds of electrical issues, not trying to deal with that again.

    Thanks.

I believe Viper makes a remote start/alarm for our Tundras that a few on here have and they really like it.

That being said, @csuviper found an awesome remote start on Amazon for around $300 if I. Remember correctly. I may do that. My truck security system is a lot of noise followed by 9 mm shots being fired at the suspect.

I actually decided to go with the Viper 5706. Other members recommend purchasing it from Amazon for a lower price but some are sold as new but actually refurbished. With that said, I would recommend purchasing from a licensed distributor.

And can a DIY’er do it themselves or does it need be taken in to a car audio place.

That's the same model I have and I got it installed due to the simple fact I not comfortable doing it.

What is a fair price for install? What did you pay, if I may ask?

As an installer I would recommend Viper or any other DEI brand. They make a great product. I would also say to only purchase and get it installed by an authorized dealer. The problem with buying off of Amazon is that they will not warranty the unit for you of there is a problem. You also don't have access to the technical support and programming that you may want or need. Just my .02

I found a Viper remote/security for around 500 including install. There were a ton of options I could add to it though, that was just the most basic version.
    It looks legit though.

I'm very happy with my Viper 5906. As GavinG83 noted, you need to purchase and have the unit installed by an authorized dealer or there will be NO warranty. It will cost more but it will be professionally installed. At the store I went to not only do I have the Viper warranty but I also have a warranty with the store. I did a ton of research and after talking to different installers the Viper was the clear choice.

Yeah I’m for sure going to go with a Viper combo after doing some internetting and reading all the reviews here. Either the 59 or the 57, I’ll see what my go-to audio place has in stock.

I completely agree! From what I recall, it was around $250 which includes glass breakage sensor

I have the viper 5706 with the SmartStart add on so I get notifications to my phone. I added a tilt sensor as well so with the slightest vehicle tilt the alarm goes off.

I’m getting the compustar t11 with start/alarm shock sensors. It has the ability to add anything such as roll down windows, perimeter alarm, whatever else you my need. It would be awesome for the perimeter alarm so if anyone goes within 2 feet will alert before alarm but would be annoying at grocery stores

Also the fortin evo one has the capability to add sensors to it. So don't rule that out as an alarm/remote start unit. I'm still a fan of the evo one.

I also have a Viper system and it's working flawlessly. If you go that route, definitely have it installed by one of their authorized dealers. The dealer here handles the warranty and guarantees the unit and the install for life. You'll pay a little more, but the peace of mind is well worth a few extra bucks.

So they warranty it for life but what happens when the place who did the install goes out of business or someone else buys them and they decide not to honor those anymore?? Will Viper back up their product for life??

I'm not one for big box stores but Best Buy sells Viper and they will warranty it nationwide.

I haven't checked into it, but my guess would be that another authorized dealer would take over the product warranty. The dealer warranty would probably be a loss. Fortunately, the dealer I went to has been around since the 70's (they started during the CB craze and moved into stereo's, tinting, and accessories) and shows no signs of slowing down.

Sorry to derail a bit, but does anyone know if you can wire up the new viper systems to use the factory beep/two beep for lock and unlock?? The goal is to get remote start, but I love the simple factory alarm chirps.

The viper chirps not so much...

The dealer that installed mine said that wasn't possible, but a quick email to the Viper support team should get you a definitive answer. https://www.viper.com/support/
