Had airbags installed on my 2013 DC previously as I tow an approximately 7800 pound trailer and with all the cargo, generator and fluids it totals a payload of close to 9k pounds give or take. This is my first TRD model. With the obviously elevated suspension made for off roading, would air bags interfere with the existing suspension or is it even necessary? I haven't hooked it up yet to try. I do have the weight distribution bars.

I vote you go airbags and sell me the suspension! In all seriousness though the suspension was tuned for off-roading, not towing. A lot of guys complain about the squat with the Pros, especially if towing that amount of weight. I don’t have a lot of advice for you but I know there are some towing experts on here who will likely chime in soon. I know a lot of guys recommend load equalizers, leaf packs, etc. I’ve heard the air bags really effect the ride quality. Congrats on the new pro!

I am curious to know if I only inflate the airbags while towing and let out all the air when not if that would adversely affect anything one way or the other? I left 10 pounds in on my other Tundra and it stiffened the ride to some extent but not by too much and trailered the camper very well along with the weight distribution bars. There is an adjustment control on the dash you can make to point the headlights from 1 to 5 degrees down when the back end is lower. I would imagine they put that there for this reason. Not sure how long that option has been around, I know it will come in handy for me.

Yea the leveling motors definitely come in handy when towing. I’ve never run bags so I can’t really speak to the best option there. How often are you towing? I’m taging @ColoradoTJ I think he’s the local resource with these matters.

Airbags with cradles. Best of both worlds.

Or Sumosprings and thread on superbumps when you don't need the carrying capacity.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.

Had a rear air bag set up on my f-150 before the Tundra, I used it a lot, worth every penny. Just my 2 cents

I’ll be looking at bags for the Tundra or old man emu leafs

I have the camper which gets used currently VERY infrequently and hope to change that. I also have an 18' landscaping trailer that I haul a Grand L3940 Cab Kubota with loader and BH that all totaled is about 8500 to 9000 also, but that is only once a year or two. The other 2 trailers I have are under 3500 so no issues there.

See image. Uninflated they will not be pulled and effect wear/articulation. Varying loads this is IMHO the best solution to still maintain offroad capability. daystar-airbag-cradle-install.jpg

PS. sorry....made by Daystar. I don't have them. But its what I would do in your situation.

Originally from Mo and have lived in Co, Az, Utah, Ok, and Ma. Currently building a place in southern Vermont and own a place in southern Maine. Plan to settle into retirement in the place in Vermont. Living in CT currently but can't wait to get out of here quite honestly. If I were to live south of here it would be in the hills of NC. Been to Asheville and loved it.

I 3rd the motion. The cradles are a must.

If you don’t have the cradles, whenever you get service on your trucks, inform the service manager so they can disconnect them to reduce the possibility of tears.

What Manufacturer for the cradles and airbags do you recommend?

Daystar might be one of the only manufacturers. That’s what I used.

I run a removal Firestone setup. I have it down to remove them within 30 minutes both bag and Daystar cradle.

Thanks for the insight. I'll look into that. I am under the impression that Firestone airbags are popular? If there is any feedback on that subject it is very welcome.

I'll be installing Firestones and cradles soon. Still debating on whether to do the built in compressor or not.

I use Roadmaster Active suspension springs. At standard setting give 1/2" lift unladen, reduce axle hop, better stability and significantly reduces sag, boosting the soft rear spring rates capability without the negative side effects of airbags.

I wonder if that would stiffen the initial suspension travel too much on the Fox shock system when I am not towing?

In my experience not really at all. If anything it feels more planted. I have the Bilstien TRD PRO suspension

The Firestone airbag, compressor, interior gauge kit and cradles arrived today and will pick them up from the off-road speciality shop on Monday. Will be installed not too long after that. Will post pics, after installation.
