Just curious what air compressors you are using at home? Looking to buy one for airing tires up and things of that nature. Doesn’t have to be heavy duty but I don’t want any junk either. Details and specifics if you don’t mind please.

    Thanks

I bought a Kobalt (Lowes brand) Quiet Tech, 2 gallon. Runs at less than 60dB, so you can talk over it even when standing right next to it. Has served me well for almost a year. All I do with it is air up tires and use the compressed air to dust off stuff that sits around the house. I would get a bigger one if I needed it, having a quiet compressor is a blessing.

2.6 Gal. 2 HP Portable Electrical Hot Dog Air Compressor

My compadre's a handyman. He specifically requested an oiled unit thinking they would be more durable so he bought this Makita unit.
It's a light duty unit not intended to run high volume air operated tools but should be fine for airing up tires and running nail guns etc.
He swears by this unit ~ it's been good to him over the years.
I have a larger hand-me-down 20 gal. unit that I use for tires and an air impact wrench. If I needed another compressor to air up my tires I'd consider something like this or the Kobalt unit described above.
Many of my bike riding friends have something like this in their garage to keep all their tires aired up properly ~ bicycles, cars and ATVs.

    Product Overview
Makita 2.0 HP Air Compressor (MAC700) is equipped with Makita Big Bore engineered pump cylinder and piston for higher output, less noise and improved jobsite performance. The MAC700 delivers industrial power and results with improved durability for tough job site conditions. The MAC700 is powered by a 2.0 HP motor. The Makita Big Bore engineered pump with cast iron cylinder has greater bore and stroke for increased compression, faster recovery and less noise.

    • Cast iron pump with big bore cylinder and piston is engineered to provide faster recovery time for improved performance
    • Powerful 2 HP 4-pole motor produces 3.3 CFM at 90 psi for increased productivity
    • Pump runs at lower RPM (1,730) resulting in lower noise (80 dB) and improved pump durability
    • Low amperage draw reduces incidences of tripped breakers at start-up
    • Pump is oil-lubricated for cooler running temperatures and reduced wear
    • Roll-bar handle for portability and additional protection
    • Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency
    • Durable cast iron cylinder reduces wear and increases pump life, removable for easy maintenance
    • Oil sight glass for fast, easy and efficient maintenance
    • Lever handle ball valve - tank drain valve improves upon standard petcock design for easier maintenance
    • Built-in thermal overload for additional motor protection

I agree. I have a Dewalt 15 gallon that I've owned for 12 years now and it still runs like a top. It's a bit loud, but you can run most air tools on it and since the tank will hold 200 psi, you have more capacity than similar sized compressors.

    https://www.dewalt.com/products/gea...-225-psi-15-gallon-workshop-compressor/d55168

I now have a 60 gallon Husky in my garage that is plumbed into a dryer and a drop down cord reel in my attic. It's a sweet setup. However, I'll never get rid of my Dewalt because it's so perfect for portable jobs. I would recommend the Dewalt over any pancake or small compressor that would only run nail guns. Always better to have more capacity for what you might want in the future.

I have a 20g oilless Craftsman compressor that is loud as hell and can't power an impact.
I want to get rid of it and get the Makita Mac5200

I'd take a look at the black Harbor Freight air compressors. I own two and they have the best bang for the buck you can get in terms of price vs. CFM. Keeps up with my AirCat impact pretty good. If you have deeper pockets Ive noticed screw-style compressors for home use have dropped dramatically in price over the last few years. Might be work looking into. Just my $.02
