    Hi all,

    First time poster.

I'm looking at getting an older Tundra ('01) with the 4.7 V8 2UZ-FE.

However, back in 2013, I fixed my father-in-law's '05 or '06 Tunrda with that damned limp mode problem.

Wondering if this problem existed on the pre-'05 V8 Tundras, too?

    Thanks!

    Welcome....
The Limp mode is indeed a function in an 01, as well as 02-06. However, the 01-04 due not have AIP/SAIS since that came out in the 05-06.

    Thanks for the info, BubbaW.

OK, so I guess limp mode can be triggered by other issues as well. At the least, it sounds like I don't have to worry about AIP/SAIS issues with an '01...

    Cheers,
    Chris

Yes, there are a number of things that will cause the ECU to initiate Fail-Safe mode which then actuates the Throttle Body Limp Mode lever.

Past 1st Gen Forum limp mode threads of various issues....

    Yup, saw that! ;)

Was the recall back in '10 for the whole frame or just the crossmember?

Secondary Air Injection System Bypass Kit
The Secondary Air Injection System has been implemented on Tundras from 2005 all the way to current. Any model years prior consider your self lucky. Waiting to see if the new twin turbos still have the system but everything else at this time still has this failure prone system. We have Bypass Solutions for all of these models, the anything 2008 and newer we recommend the Gen 2 Bypass Kit. Below I have included a few recent post. Any questions do not hesitate to contact us.
