Will an aftermarket subwoofer void any warranty?

I'm on order for a SR5 TRD-OR, and it will be without the upgraded audio. I'd like to add a small eight inch subwoofer just for a little more audio depth; however, I'm afraid it would void warranty. I've heard recently from a salesperson it won't, but I've never found or heard anything truly concrete stating that (he just kind of spouted off it wouldn't, stating it wouldn't since it was prewired, which I don't know the validity of yet.)

Do any of you have any previous experience with altering the sound system and how that works with Toyota warranties?

    Thanks!

Lol should not void anything. They would have to prove why the sub caused the issue you are tying to warranty.

I checked out the 22 Crew Cab the other day and if you are a tall guy like I am at 6'5", it felt like a slightly bigger Tacoma. I was so excited for the 22 and now I won't touch it and will stick to my 17 Plat Crew Cab until I jump brands later next year sad to say.

The only thing I can see them arguing is if your battery died during warranty because the sub amp was drawing power off it constantly.

Well at least you can enjoy one last great trade in value on the 2017! You won't see that again when you trade in the other brands...been there, done that.

Actually I am going to keep it. When I am ready for my next one, I may very well keep it. I am leaning towards a Sierra or Yukon. I've owned a 07 Silverado and a 11 Silverado and to be honest, I have had more problems with this 17 Tundra than I did with the Silverados combined. I'm at 66k miles on my Tundra. It just disappointing, they made the new Tundra CC like the equivalent of a Chevy Colorado as far as size goes. I've looked for a new 21 Tundra Platinum Crew Cab but they are all gone unless I want white and or a 2wd. Oh well.

Just thought I would piss off the whole lot of you fools that hate the 22's and come here daily just to bash them. So, I guess this defines you for having a lack of compersion. Better get your mind right because dinging folks wants over and over will leave you a bitter old fool in the end. Happy New Year to you and all.

I figure you are knowingly exaggerating, but I'm coming from a GMC Canyon (Colorado equivalent) and there is a massive difference in cab space.

if you’re currently in a crew cab that is bigger than the ‘22 cab, I can understand that feeling. I’m 6’4” coming from a Tacoma double cab and it feels way bigger than my Tacoma. All my kids fit lol

Your modifications do not void any warranties unless they damage the item being warrantied. It is on the warranty provider to prove that your modifications caused damage to the specific part being covered under warranty.

Easier said than done. Now a aftermarket sub will hardly ruin anything but say a lift kit, is another issue. The MM act is all fine an dandy on paper but when you have to use it, hope that you don’t have to lawyer up. Here’s a quick example. Say you put aftermarket lift coilovers and your upper control arm bushing take a dump. The dealer can tell you that the CO caused it and send you on your way. According to the MM act they have to prove that but, you would have to take them to court so that they can prove it. Who’s going to lawyer up for a $2-300 UCA? I have been fortunate to never have an issue with warranty and my aftermarket stuff but sometimes it can be a headache.

Didn't say it would be easy. I'd spray shit on the dealer all over social media. They'll come back to the table then. Still, protections are there, you may as well whip them out and try.

I'd caution you about "spraying ish". Seen online a few instances where that backfires on the sprayer.

I don't know the law around defamation, but I know some business have fought in court such tactics before.

Meh. Good luck with that as long as the user is truthful in their shit spraying. I'd also take it to Toyota as it's their name.

Yeah it happened to a guy trying to do it to a dealer that was marking up his bronco purchase after they agreed-upon it months before it was delivered. The guy went to a form and called all the forum members to give a bad rating to the dealership. The dealership was going to sue the hell out of him. Actually served him if I’m not mistaken. So the guy went back on there to apologize publicly and asked everyone to stop.

And here is where the problem lies for the MM Act. Dealers have deep pockets. Some stuff isn't worth it to go against the dealer. Other more costly stuff, yes. The MM Act isn't like you show up to the dealer and say " Hey you have to prove this, according to the MM Act".

Add the sub. Worst case they won't warranty the crappy head unit and you have to upgrade to a Kenwood.....the horror! Upgrading the stereo was the best thing I did to my truck. Don't worry about it.

I am not exaggerating. There is a huge difference in comfort and space from my 17 Plat CC to the 22 Limited CC. It was exceptionally disappointing. It felt like being a kid again and waking up on Christmas morning and finding out Christmas was postponed to June.
