Are the valves on my 2003 tundra 4.7L. adjustable or can I just tighten the rocker arm nuts up?

I haven't taken the valve cover off yet. My main reason is to loosen the rocker arms so that I know all the valves are seated so I can check for a head gasket leak using compressed air. I have low compression on 2 adjoining cylinders but when I put air into the one cylinder, I dont know if I'm getting air because the valves aren't seated or because it's a blown head gasket.

The valve clearance is adjustable by selective thickness shims. The camshaft has to be removed to do it. Normally they don't need to be adjusted for the lifetime of the vehicle.

Most likely a bent valve. The head gasket is a multi layer steel type, it does not "blow out" completely, not that I've seen anyways.

Won’t TDC have all valves closed?

It will on #1 cylinder, but not on all cylinders at the same time.

You put the cylinder that you are working on at TDC compression stroke and both valves will be closed on that cylinder.

Ok. What is TDC? My compression on 4 and 6 is 95 and the rest of the cylinders are 180.

TDC means "Top Dead Center" which is when the piston is at its top most travel inside the cylinder. Yes, you have a blown head gasket which I told you in your previous post. There really is no reason for further testing.

New engine time, unfortunately. This was the engine that was overheated and blew up into the transmission?

Its ok. The OP posted last week in a different manner. Didn’t give us all the info about the overheating of engine prior until later on into the thread. PCJ the mechanic nailed the diagnosis.

I just wanted to be 100% before I go ahead and spend the money to have some do the head gasket. Do you all recommend doing both sides or just do the side that is causing an issue?

    Best to do both.

have the heads decked and use oem gaskets. It’s a big job you don’t want to do again.
Also check for the block to be flat too

You’ll blow a gasket quick if the head or block are warped and after overheating, there’s a good chance the heads warped

Ditto on warped aluminum cylinder head from an overheated condition. The head might be warped so badly that it could need replacement. And yeah, no rocker arms on these engines. Shim and bucket ride right on top of the valve stem and the cams push on the shims directly.
