I added an ARE cap and now when I am driving the interior cab is SOOOOOO loud. Its like the drivetrain is IN the back seat now. I even took truck into Toyota because I thought something was grinding underneath. It sounds horrible. Does anyone have this problem??? Is there anything I can do besides do the boot insert, or would that even help?

Describe the noise, is it a vibration, wind or something else?

Could it be installed improperly? For example if the Shell/Cap rubs against the cab, without a seal?

It sounds like disc brakes grinding . Thats the only thing I can think of. Thats why I took it to Toyota because I felt like something was metal on metal

There is nothing rubbing. I had it put on at ARE and they put the foam seal on the rails before it went on. I watched them. Plus, I have another 2000 Tundra that we take the cap on and and off of and have never heard that sound. (it has an different ARE cap)

Do you have a roof rack on the cap? I am wondering if the bars arent aligned correctly

yes, I have the bars on top that support up to 600lbs or something? they are reinforced down through the top of the cap and have braces that extend in the interior to the bed rails

The sound is coming from the back window. It sound like the back window is rolled down or opened slightly but it is not. I had my husband drive while I listened in the backseat and it is coming from in between the cap and the cab, from below

All I could think of is wind noise off the rails imitating a grinding sound. What speeds does it start to become unbearable

I had this on my Tacoma with a cap. It was the rear diff noise, it was a constant hiss above a certain speed. Caps are like resonators.

That would be my guess. The exterior cross bars might be angled causing wind noise.

If your not noticing a change in noise between accelerating or braking I would take a guess its wind related. I feel like if it was something with the truck itself accelerating and braking would make some changes to the sound.

My Tacoma was so loud it was actually uncomfortable with the top on and the rear slider open. Tacomas are much worse though.

oh well! I'll deal with it. I LOVE having my cap on. I am always caring around so much stuff with 3 boys: hockey equipment, fishing crap, tools, groceries, coolers, dogs, etc!

I have an ARE Z Series, carpeted, no rack, and a bed rug. When I put mine on...I had the opposite effect...the ride became 50% quieter! This is a little perplexing.

Yes, I also have ARE Z Series, carpeted, and a bed rug, but with a rack. I definitely get better gas mileage even with rack.

Just got an are cx classic on my 2018 sr 5 dbl cab. Noticing the exact same thing. Was thinking about taking to the shop. Def sounds like it’s coming from the slider. it’s amplifying the rear differential sounds. Guess I’ll just crank the stereo.

Yes, it's sound of the differential. I put a foam pool noodle in between the bed and the rear window which does help. But I forget its there and it gets blown out at the car wash. But, it definitely helps

Im thinking you have the ARE CX HD. Two questions.
    1) Does it have Windoors on the side?
    2) Is the shell lined.

Some came with and some without. It's a noticeable difference in sound.
