Picked these up for a song used. Love the style of this wheel and the 17" diameter. The small wheel/huge sidewall look is badass IMO, makes your truck look like a monster truck. Plus tires might be cheaper than an 18" wheel. Well maybe lol.

So I need some help deciding what tire to go with and what size to go with. My truck is a 2011, 4wd, stock suspension, 18" steelies, kind of base SR5 spec double cab. Not a work truck spec, but very few options.

Anyways, this is going to be a pavement princess. Its too nice and too damn big to really take off road. Only time I'm using 4wd is going up a boat ramp or if it snows(which is 2-3 times a year here). Lots of interstate miles, so a quiet tire is important to me.

First lets talk about the type of tire I want to run. Goodyear, Khumo, and Sumitomo are out of the question, I've had bad experiences with all of them. I don't want a mud terrain tire, this truck came with Firestone M/T tires on the stock steelies, they were so loud I swapped a set of used Bridgestone Dueallers on there after 3 days. Those used Bridgestones have a vibration from 67 to 74mph, so I'm not really sold on that brand either.

I'm thinking about BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2. I love the tread pattern, the white letters on the tires, bitching looking tire. Only thing I'm worried about is noise on the highway, it is kind of an aggressive tread pattern. Although I've heard good things about those tires and that people said they are quiet on the highway. I've also heard BFGoodrich is owned by Michelean, so that right there tells me its a great tire.

One of the tire guys at my local tire store recommended Toyo Open Country tires. I've heard good things about them as well. Post up your experience with them.

I'm also persuaded with Michelan tires, but tire rack didn't have anything for the stock rock warrior tire size except a highway only type tire that looked pretty lame.

2nd Lets talk biggest tire size I can run on a rock warrior wheel. Stock size is 285/70/R17. I don't care if tires rub, I can always cut plastic and I'm planning to put a leveling kit on this truck once I put the Rock Warrior wheels/tires on it. So what do you guys recommend as far as size? Measured the rock warrior wheels, they are 17"x9". 2018 F150 Raptor is running a 315/70/R17 on a 17x8.5" wheel just for comparison.

I'm really after a more aggressive look in terms of tire size, but I do want it to drive nice/quiet on the highway. Also if I have to do some sort of ECM mod because the tires are too tall/throwing off the speedo, I'm fine with that, I can fix it.

Might want to consider Cooper too. I know you don't want m/t but I'm happy with my STT Pro's.

Are they loud on the highway? Truck had Firestone M/T on it when I got it, drove me nuts with the noise and vibrations.

Also lionix, your truck looks bitchin'. The rock warrior wheels go real nice with the grey paint. Also wish Toyota made a grill like that on our second gen trucks, where it spells out TOYOTA

If you want highway manners and quiet, I'm going to strongly recommend Michelin Defender LTX M/S, but that puts you to a 295/70R17, only a slight increase over stock.

Slightly louder than ko2's I had, but cooper does sell a/t's too. Ko2's got louder as they wear and they cost so much more. My larger STT Pro's were cheaper than my smaller ko2's.

    Cooper a/t's http://us.coopertire.com/tires/discoverer-a-t3-suv.aspx

    Hey A -A -ron

I have toyo open country AT2s on another truck.
I've spun out this past winter, and I've hydroplaned multiple times in the spring. No one is allowed to drive that truck with those tires in inclement weather except me.
I'm not too proud to admit my regret in buying them - the internet shilling worked on me.

Alternatively, after trying yokohama go15s this past winter/spring, I liked them enough to buy a second full set for 17" wheels. They handle absolutely beautifully IME.
If you're looking for (1) T H I C C tires with (2) great road performance that are (3) severe snow service rated and can handle all but the most difficult swamps or icestorms, you should price them out.

YMMV, but toyo wont fool me again.

    edit:
Also in regards to size I think you need to start at 285/75r17 and up only.
If a BMC is no big thang go 315/70r17s out the gate.

Great feedback, will not buy Toyo tires. I've heard good things about Yokohama tires as well.

Now you are going to have the help me out with the abbreviations and lingo here.

IME- ice, mud, etc??? In my honest e-pinion, yeah that doesn't make sense

    T H I C C ?????

YMMV- your mileage may vary, got that one.

BMC- British Motor Corporation, makers of the 1960's Austin Mini, formed when Austin and Morris merged in the 1950's.

Hey cut me some slack here, first 4wd vehicle I've ever owned. Owned a few different low rider 2wd Toyota mini trucks and a small 2004 Tacoma, been wanting a full size truck for a long time after driving little trucks.

Thanks for man-splainin lol. I googled cab mount chop, I really don't want my truck cut up like that if I can avoid it. Figured a front leveling kit would let me fit bigger tires.

I'm currently running Falken AT3's on my truck. I like the way they ride and they're fairly quiet. Plus the cost of them was pretty reasonable.

Put falken WP AT3’s on the wife’s 4R. Wish I knew about them before I bought my KO2’s.

Quiet for an AT, great road manners. Aggressive look like the KO2’s, and perform in mud rain snow (as well as any AT can). We’re in the only spot on the east coast that is comparable to Rocky Mountain levels of snow. And trust me, these perform. (3peak/snowflake symbol doesn’t just get handed out for participation)

If you need a function specific tire (mud, crawling) then an all terrain isn’t for you. But if you need an all terrain, these are a great tire and much more cost effective than KO2’s.
They’re heavy, if that’s a concern, but that’s because of the crazy tread depth.

I have Cooper AT3 and I'm very happy with them. I'm also kind of excited with their new lineup of AT3.... they got some new designs that make the sidewall look much more aggressive.

I have set of Cooper STT Pro M/T's and currently have mounted on a set of Cooper ST Maxx Hybrid AT tires. The Maxx's might be more suited for your use. Also check out the new Cooper AT3's as mentioned above^^. Three versions. Looks very promising.

I have rock warriors on my 2011 tundra looking to upgrade the tires. I just got a toytec 3" lift with SPC UCA. I was considering 315/70r17. Will i need a wheel spacer to make this fit?
