My question is I have the bilstein 6112 installed at top setting 2.5 with a shim on each side , I achieved a little over 3 inches. The ride is like driving a cement truck . Not too happy after all the reviews and yes was installed correctly . I had the bilstein 5100 top setting and ride was about the same . My question is , if I take shims out and keep it at top setting or go to 1.9 setting and use the shims to achieve same height , Which set up idea would be better ride ??
Top 2.5 setting with no shims or 3rd setting 1.9 with one shim per side .
I don’t get that tundra lean

I had the 6112 at the top setting and it rode like butter. I didn't use any other add-ons. My vote is to do top setting and leave it alone.

I have mine at 1.9 and the truck rides like a dream. My truck is the preferred family vacation vehicle in lieu of my wife’s highlander.

I have 6112's at the top setting with no other type of spacer. I think what the OP is referring to is the digressive valving on Bilstein's causes the short sharp bumps on concrete to be really noticeable. Don't ask me to explain the digressive matter, just what I have read and learned. Other than that, my truck rides better than it ever did to me, and my offroad (trips to deer camp) on a shitty oilfield road handles the bumps, holes, big limestone chunks, dips, and whatever else great. Had a '14 Z71 with their Rancho suspension and a spacer lift for level. Broke strut mounts on both sides and did not handle the camp road like the Bilstein's do. I can drive basically faster and more aggressive than the Chevy would ever let me. The Bilsteins suck up the road. I also have 5160's in the rear. Basically level with 295R70 18's on stock rims.

I have the opposite of the previous two posters. I have mine at 1.9 with 1 shim per side. It doesn't drive like a car, but it also doesn't drive massively stiff.

The way I have it set up now everything just seems maxed out . The alignment numbers were good with the stock uca. I have the differential drop installed as well . The installer said he really had to crank down the springs to get them assembled . So maybe if I have him set it down to 1.9 it will take some preload off spring and will let the springs breath a little and not be so compressed and provide a better ride ?

I'm not expert, but you are probably correct. And from my previous truck experience, I'm doing the exact same set up when my truck comes in next week.

Same setup here (6112+1/4 shim) , rides a little firm, but perfect for me. I would hate a soft riding truck.

I just got mine installed Tuesday, 1.9 with 1 ds shim +2 w/ 5160’s. It raised it 2 7/8” up front, 2” in back. Little more than I was expecting but happy.
To be honest I can barely tell the difference than stock. Maybe slightly more bouncy on concrete roads like people say, but that could be the new tires too. Or combo. Pretty happy with the ride. Certainly wouldn’t call it stiff.
Did add JBA arms as well.

I went 1.3 setting and have the 1/4 inch shim (1/2 inch lift) and are installing this morning. I absolutely cannot have the front higher than the back...the ass dragging look is a no go. So I expect to have some rake.

This 1.3 w. 1/4” spacer on driver side. Rear is 5100 at stock height. Toyo AT III, 275/70/18.12AAC59F-239C-4C57-BFFB-390343246671.jpg

Rides really nice. The 6112s added the 1.3” as advertised and with the spacer the front of the truck (left to right) is level. I had the Tundra 1/2” lean on driver side.

The AT IIIs are 33.2” tall and it rides smooth and no vibrations.

thought the spacer shims on top of coil springs is not recommended and could cause problems. I am confused

You’re thinking of an actual spacer kit. Like a 2 to 3 inch spacer. The shims in this case are 1/4 to 1/2” spacers to alleviate the Tundra lean or just to squeeze an extra 1/2” of lift.

What tires ( load rating ) and what psi are you running?

Tuning tire pressure is free and easy. I’d give it a shot.
My e rated 34” ko2 seem to like 36-38 ish. 40+ unloaded and It’s too harsh. Off-road I run 25 and it’s butter. I also pull my front sway bar so IFS can be IFS but it’s not going to corner or perform evasive maneuvers as well.

I’m at 1.9 with shim on each side. It has softened up over the last year, but when new with 40 psi in tires and cold weather it was harsher than I had hoped for.

I should have also mentioned I run 17” wheels for the added sidewall.

Never heard of that. I’ve been running one spacer on the driver side of my 6112s for 30k miles so far with zero issue.

6112/5160. Ranchhand rear bumper and Valhallas Shields.
I’m running at my 6112 at 1.9 and the 5160 at stock height in the rear. I have a little nose up rake, I’ve got Coachbuilder 1” shackles to install in the next week or two that should solve the issue.

Front is a little higher? I’m some set at 1.9 I need to install in I have a shim for driver side. I wanted to level but I bought some airbags now to install and I hear that lifts the rear even at 5psi. So idk if I should buy more shims or if it’ll be level with 1.9in shocks
