I actually started this build a while back but I never had interest in starting a build thread. This all changed over the last few weeks as I found some other builds quite helpful. It’s nice to see what others have done, and what they plan on doing. Hopefully this information can help others.

PURPOSE: This rig is built for a daily driver who works M-F and explores on the weekends. I spend almost every weekend camping or doing some type of outdoor activity and this truck is built around that.

The day I got the Tundra. I ended up trading in a 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro. It had the 6SP Manual and was a lot of fun to drive but I didn't feel safe driving it. Was too small and didn't have enough power.

    Devil in the details:

After dropping over $40k on a truck this was the only mods I could afford at the time. I went on Amazon and searched for TRD Tundra and this is what I ended up getting.

That's just my go to number. You ever see the movie Soldier from 1998....the one with Kurt Russel? Horrible movie with today's standards but I loved that movie as a kid. It played a big part in my decision to join the military. One of the main characters was referred to as 607.

Nice truck! I like the 4 wheel camper. How is the shell model working for you?

Shell model works great for my needs. Not for everyone tho. I have a minimal set up compared to some of the other campers. I'll post up some pics of the interior.

Some crappy interior pics of the camper:

We kept it simple by adding a gravity feed water system. The 7 gal jug of water will last us around 4-5 days but this isn't used for drinking. That water is stored in the fridge inside the main cab of the truck. The power system is a Goal Zero unit and that basically keeps our phones, laptops and camera gear charged. The actual camper is connected to my main truck battery.

The water drains into a 3 gal grey water tank. It stays inside the camper and has to be pulled out to dump. When we go on longer trips we can change out the 3 gal grey water tank for a 7 gal one. This is a must for beach camping in MD.

Notice the porta potty. It's secured using a plate that is bolted to the floor. We only use this for going number 1.

My first lift was a Rough Country 3/1 spacer lift. This is the one that has shims on the top so you can adjust it to be a 2.5 inch lift or a 3 inch one. I opted to add in all of the shims for a full 3 inch lift. The kit also came with a diff drop kit. With the parts and install I spent around $2000.

I decided to go with Toyo Open Country ATs only because I like the name.

Once the lift and tires were installed I took it out for some fire road exploring.

Soon after the lift was installed my #1 priority was to get the camper installed. Since this camper was designed to fit in a short bed Tacoma I needed to build a 3" platform for it to sit on. This was needed so the camper didn't rest on the side rails.

The camper went on quite easy and I was off on my first trip.

I decided to spend some time in the mountains so I set my GPS to George Washington National Forest.

This was the camp spot we ended up finding.

Your truck looks great man. I love the 4wheel camper setups. A buddy of mine has one and uses it a ton during the winter when he goes skiing.

Thanks! Winter camping was a big factor in my decision to go this route. At the time when I made this purchase I was stationed in upstate New York and the winters lasted half the year.

Are you running anything for heat? Or just the thermal pack from 4wheel campers?

Where did you get the camper? I’m at drum now and wanted to look at one in person. Is there a dealer around here?

I have propane style heater inside the camper. It's made by Camco and the name is Olympian Wave 3. I'll also use a Mr. Buddy Heater on some trips but the Wave 3 works better for me. The Mr. Buddy Heater actually puts out too much heat and I get a lot more condensation when I use it.

I had to drive down to Mainline Overland to get mine. I think they have a shop in NH and this is likely the nearest point. I miss my days at Drum.

Yeah, I have been looking into those. They seem like a great option. The only downside is having to store the extra fuel. If my truck was a diesel I would have one for sure. But since I already carry the propane for cooking I figured I would stick with this for now.

That's true with limiting the types of fuel. The nice thing about the heater is that the fuel tank is self contained in the unit. I'm going to try one out this fall in my new camper and see how it performs.
