    I've been researching and can't decide which one to go with. I want to run a 37" tire if I can fit it but the smallest would be a 35". I know a couple of guys here run 4.88 but will 5.29 be a over kill?

    I have been running 35s for 2 yrs with pulling a camper no problem a little bit of power loss up hills but thats it. I think with 37s 4.88 would be plenty .

    I'm running one of the first sets of 5.29s, not sure how available these are yet.
    I find 'em a little low for 35s unless towing but expect they'll be perfect with 37s.

    Calibrated Power 5 Tune pack, Allison 1000 tune, PPE deep trans pan, Cold/Hot CAC pipes, Banks CAI, PCV reroute, resonator delete, S&B 62 gal fuel tank, B&W GN hitch
    5.29’s will put you back closer to stock gearing/tire size feel. Since you have a 1st gen, you are not rocking the 5.7L.

    I had 4.88 on 33s. Felt stock. I vote 5.29.

    Only things a gear chart doesn’t calculate for is wind drag and weight. Purely mathematical viewpoint. In reality, much different.

    So far it seems to be having the opposite effect but it's too soon to draw any conclusions. I feel very certain it will do far better towing on the highway, around town driving...:notsure:

    I have a first gen with 35's and 4.88's and it is perfect. If you are regearing and you don't have a locker or LSD, that's the time to put one on.

    thanks for everyone's input. I'm going to try 37's this weekend and if it fits I'll be getting 5.29. Pretty sure it will fit with minor trimming.

    To get this straight I am running 275 70 R18 tires which is 33.2" tires. I'm I losing power and performance with stock 4.30 gear ratio? When I look at the chart I see more power with 4:88 but much worse fuel consumption, that seem right? Seems like I would need to step up to 35" to make a gear change to 4:88 worth it.

    I really don't have a huge power lose with my truck on 35s. Not enough to gear I don't think. I mean I can burn the tires of the thing any time .I do when pulling the camper but thats to be expected.

    33 is best overall performance. Sounds like 4:30 right on for 32-33’s according to the graph.

    I see now .I guess if its a daily I would defiantly gear mine also but I don't drive it but maybe 25 miles a week. And when pulling a camper its mainly high way driving . o thanks for the graph !

    I'm still running the 4.30's on my 35's and have no plans to change them. It runs exactly how I want it to right now. However, when everything is all said and done and the truck is a helluva lot heavier, I may jump up to 4.88's.

    Nitro and Yukon is what I use on the Jeeps, drag cars were motive or US gear.

    Added Drivetrain stress, especially on transmission/transfer case (when in use).
