curious to see if there a Tune available for the 05-06 VVTI engines like there is for the 07+ 4.7l.

(yes this probably has been asked before, but i haven't been able to find answers)

I haven't seen anything that is really worth the expense if not supercharged.

For pre-05 I've had a Unichip that I got on a serious sale back in the day. I think the "out of the box" base tunes don't make much difference. When I installed it the harness intercepts every wire on the ECU, but the actual Unichip module only has about 4 wires going to it. My shift points when WOT have always been a little off since installing, it won't get near redline. I leave it on though because I do like the valet mode when the rare valet need comes up, and the kill switch mode when I leave my truck at LAX on occasion.

The unichip doesn’t really interest me. The ov tune is more what I’m looking for. They have tunes out there for the 07 up 4.7. So then I ally the 05-06 should be doable too

SO, I have Unichip and what are these modes you're referring to? How do you control these? I have Unichip because I'm supercharged and the TRD ECU took a shit but I didn't install and not familiar with this?

On the tuning side, you're supposed to be able to tune the Unichip but I can't find anyone locally that has ever used it. I really want to dyno tune my truck once I complete the headers/exhaust how I want. My main mechanic might be open to it if I buy the program for the tuning but didn't seem overly eager to work with it...

The newer Toyota ecus can be flashed as far as I know (my 06 avalon has a flash from r9k) yours likely cant be. So
    Piggyback is your best bet.

@imDementeD I never found anybody who could tune it either, that's why I've only toggled around on their base tunes. The 5 position switch is needed to have more options available but if you had one tune you really liked you could set that to A and put valet mode on B. Valet mode keeps rpm under 2k.

@Darkness - Not to hijack his post, maybe we can take this to private message but I was told there are (2) tunes stock. (1) 87oct and (1) 93oct but I cannot change this without this switch? Is this something you add and I can switch the (2) tunes? Any pics of how this is wired in/setup? I don't know which mine is currently set at but I run 93oct always.

    Appreciate any info/help on this!

JET chip tunning is available through them, here is the email they sent me.

ECU 65002: We do have an ECU upgrade available for your application. Since
your ECU does not have an easily replaceable chip we do require that the ECU
be sent to us for programming. Our ECU upgrade kit contains everything
needed to pack and ship the ECU to us and includes complete instructions,
ECU location chart and our programming specification sheet that you fill out
so we know what upgrades have been done to the vehicle. Next day air return
shipping is also included in the price. The part # to fit your vehicle is
65002, which retails for $399.00. The kit is available through JET directly
or through any of our dealers. Once we receive your ECU it will be
programmed according to the vehicle specification sheet to optimize the fuel
and timing curves for your specific modifications. For best results the ECU
upgrade should be done after you complete all of your other upgrades so we
can program specifically for them. We also recommend using at least 89
octane fuel due to the modified ignition advance. Horsepower gains will vary
depending on how the vehicle is modified, but average gains are 8-10
horsepower to the drive wheels. If you have any questions you can reach our
tech department toll free at 800-535-1161. Our hours are M-F, 8-5 PST. Our
chips and modules are designed primarily for performance gains, but we have
had customers report increases in mileage, probably due to the advanced
timing curves. We do not guarantee mileage gains with our products.

The only real reason I ask is I did see a post over on Tacoma world a while back from orange virus (I believe) stating they
Had cracked the 1st gen 05-06 ecus. Was wondering if anyone else had heard anything really.

My buddy sent his ecu into jet for a different car. Never really saw any gains from a/e they did.
