So the other day, I was working on the tundra(Previously installed a new water pump, thermostat, and timing belt) just for routine maintenance but then it started overheating so I installed a new radiator. I drained the coolant out of it and someone had moved the truck(wrecking it into a ditch)and I believe left it running for quite a while. I finished installing the radiator and adding coolant to it, now the truck is lit up like a Christmas tree on the dash. ABS, Traction, and engine light on and some others. I ran the scan and had a p0300(Multiple misfires) and another code for a cylinder 2 misfire and possibly a knock sensor code(Bank1). Also a coolant temperature sensor code. An extremely rough idle is happening now and it was not doing this before. After running it that long without coolant what could of happened to the motor or what could be causing it?

Warping of the heads would be an issue or commonly known as a blown head gasket... someone told me thermostats usually rust when run dry, i dont know this first hand though.... misfire may be damaged coil packs, bad gas, coolant entering the cylinders, among other things... do cheapest first though.. check for damage wiring, and borrow or buy a bore scope... drop some sea foam or octane booster in the tank and go from there..

I just changed out the thermostat(bad gasket and a little bent) the truck has been sitting a while(2 years)but I have been starting it and running for like 30 minutes every day prior to this and have never had this problem, Other than some minor overheated but I have never run it to the max.

A lot could have happened as mentioned in post #2. Head gaskets would be my major concern. Check your dipstick to see how the oil looks. Compression prolly sucks too. Exhaust looks normal...???

Yeah, that is my concern, I did a combustion leak test before this happened and it was all good. But since I cant run the truck long enough because I am too worried I may cause more damage. I checked the dipstick and did not see any cloudiness or white. also looked under the oil cap and nothing either. I am going to drain the oil tomorrow and see if I see anything.

Do you have a decent shop a friend can tow you too? I'm thinking you may need a reliable mechanic to check it out.

Unfortunately many things could happen, piston seizure causing rings to break or become stuck, cracks in head, head warps. I would start by checking oil, which you have done but look at color and making certain it is at full mark. Then fill up with coolant watching level, followed by running it watching for bubbles in expansion tank. Should you get lucky put it on the road for a test drive watching temps. After a good run look for pressure in radiator after it's been shut down a while indicating coolant not leaking back into crankcase or sump. After it's been sitting a while you can pull spark plugs, turn engine over looking for water or you can turn over with wrench to determine if a hydraulic lock occurs indicating you have water on top piston trying to compress. If damage is not severe you may be able to run for a while until the damage worsens and manifest itself. If all looks good guess you got lucky.

    Good luck,

This^^^...but maybe check your plugs first? Can't hurt. Plugs are a great indicator of something a miss....

Yeah, anytime an engine runs without any coolant can't be good, especially if you don't for sure how long.....cover all your bases.

Alright so I pulled a plug and found coolant. :(. Already started looking at a engine replacement, not going to even bother with new heads or a head gasket(to much time and idk how to do it).
