Hello all. new to the forum. Got a 4.6 tundra for my son. Now that it's mine again it's really underpowered. Love to keep it but it needs help. Any suggestions?

The Tundra already has a cold air intake from the factory. Do the SABM with a K&N or AFE dry drop in filter. +1 on the Pedal Commander. It is a day and night difference with it.

I've heard a lot of good things with pedal commander.

Need to eventually do that myself.

Tundra has a CAI stock. Many seem to think changing out nets very little if any gains. They do claim some sound improvements for what that is worth. The SABM makes more sense, gets more air to the in take.

I had a 4.6 before. I installed an air aid intake, very very loud. Only made power above 4k rpm, which you never drive in. Waste of money

The 5.7 and 4.6 use the same stock intake. If it is good enough for the 5.7, it flows plenty of air for a smaller engine.

The 4.6 is great, regear to 4.88 and it will drive much better

What does the regear actually help with? I'm not too familiar with a 4.88 setup. I have the 4.6 with 285/70/18's and a Pedal Commander.

Most that regear do so with larger diameter tires. 35's and up. Increase in tire size changes the ratios designed with transmission, gears, and stock tires. Larger tires hurt the low end, take off, can make truck feel sluggish. Regearing helps with that.

The regear allows the motor to spool up more. I felt like the 4.6 was horrifically undergeared from the factory. It needs 4.56 stock, not 4.10. Thats why i traded the truck in, i just hated how it drove with the gearing. Stupid me, they came out with 4.88 gears for it two years later, i wish i would have just kept the truck!!! I liked the 4.6 alot.

You REALLY want 4.88’s with those taller tires. It will feel like a new truck

Gotcha. So you recommend the 4.88's with my 285/70/18's (34's) to go along with my PC?

I would research this a bit. 4.10 may be all you need.
@dirtydeeds may have some good input. An exhaust may help as well.

Thanks for the info. I'll kit Keith up at some point. I have an exhaust already so I'm good there. I'm still trying to figure out what CO's I want to go with to replace the ReadyLift 3/2 kit. Looking at the Toytec Boss kit and shackles.

There have been some long gear change threads lately.

I think you would love it. Remember 4.6 trucks have 4.10 gears not 4.30. So you would benefit even more than 5.7 guys are. Im doing 4.88 with 295/70 tires as soon as my current tires burn out

I think it depends on if the truck has the towing package or not. Mine has the tow pkg with the 4.10's.

Sounds like you need the five point seven modification.

No problem. I have had mine for about 7 years. They run about $85.00 I don't remember where I bought mine but someone here will know who sells them currently.

You can Google it and get several options and videos.
Some have made their own kit for like $20, PVC parts from hardware store.
