    Howdy there 3rd Geners.

If Toyota made an option to get a 5.7L with a 6 speed AT, would you have purchased it instead of the V6 TT?

I would assume most people got a 3rd gen to also have the TTV6

Nope. Everyone I've talked to that has driven the new Tundra absolutely loves the TT V6. All the haters are the ones that haven't been able to experience it.

    Not a chance. Maybe with a V8 with a 10-speed, but not the 6.

This ^. People seem to overlook the 10 speed factor. The transmission is one of my favorite parts of the truck. Unlike my 4runner I always feel like this truck finds the perfect gear for whatever I need to do.

I'm thinking TRD supercharged V8 w/10-speed... and an auto-lowering system that drops the suspension 2" when boost exceeds 8psi!

I would definitely stick with the ttv6. Superior in every single objective performance category, imho.

No way. I skipped the whole second Gen because I didn't want anything to do with that combo. Went from first Gen to third Gen and am loving it.

    V8 6 speed vs TTV6 10 speed = No...
    V8 10 speed vs TTV6 10 speed = Maybe
V8 6 speed vs i-Force Max = Hell no lol

V8 may go vroom vroom, but TT + Hybrid is a no brainer...

Not necessarily, I got a 2.5 because I wanted the V8. If I knew it was an option for the 3rd I would have waited. So it could go either way. Im sure some just switched to the 3rd gen to have an updated interior.

No. V8's are a thing of the past. Enjoy the V6 while you can because they will be too in about 2 decades. The sooner people realize this the better off you'll be.

My personal opinion is that the transmission is the real winner here. I would venture to say that most people saying they love the TTV6 is actually because of the 10 speed not because of the engine.
My wife's Escalade has a 10 speed that mates to the 6.2 and holy shit that thing is great to drive. So if the 3rd gen had a V8/10 speed combo I'd be all over that.
To answer your question though I'd say I'd choose the new Tundra and engine over my previous Tundra.

I know I'm taking things in a different direction here, but I'd really like to see what Toyota could do if they offered an all electric powertrain.

Between the Ford Lightning, the Silverado EV, and Rivian...I'm pretty intrigued. Rivian has basically proved that an all-electric powertrain is viable off road. Now Ford & Chevy just have to prove that an all-electric full-size truck can be viable for everyday "truck stuff" as well. Assuming that plays out, I would love to see an all-electric Tundra within the next 5 years (or less).

I think in the near(ish) future we're going to be asking ourselves TTV6, Hybrid, or Electric? Maybe a Tundra Prime one day.

Pipeline might be a little strong at this point. Lexus has been teasing the engine for some time, hopefully it will also be applied to a Toyota model or two.

No matter what happens, one thing is a fact. The 3UR-FE 5.7L V8 is one of the best engineered V8s ever built. Why do you think so many 2nd gens are still on the road with 300k+??? Only time will tell if that can be said about the new TTV6.

They're a thing of the past and yet people can't buy enough of them. Look at Stelantis, whether that be the RAM TRX, Wrangler 392, Challenger Hellcat. They're cranking out supercharged V8's and those things are sold out everywhere and they've used up all of their EPA credits. Then you have the Chevy Silverado ZR2 with the 6.2L V8, 10 speed transmission, and front/rear lockers. Given the choice I think many should have liked to see a 6.2L V8 and 10spd combo from Toyota. GM built the truck that many on here wish the TRD Pro was. Ford hasn't given up on the V8 either with a potential V8 in the Raptor-R and 7.3L V8 Godzilla in the Super Duty. A lot of people like the V8 gas in a super duty since it's a simpler design, less maintenance than diesel, and diesel prices are crazy right now.

Yes it is the V8 swan song and I wish Toyota gave us a few more years of them with an updated V8 option mated to the 10spd transmission up until 2025 and then drop it when CAFE mandates kick in. But we know Toyota isn't in the business of pleasing their customers and building exciting vehicles.

Except that long term reliability, the main reason most Toyota drivers chose a Toyota, is unknown at this point. If it ends up not having the longevity of the 2nd gen drivetrain, it probably won’t enjoy the same value retention after the warranty is up that the 2nd gens have had.

I’m sure my next truck will be the iForce Max. Gonna be some years away though.

To somewhat answer the OP, I really thought we were going to get a truck that blew the entire segment away. I thought the Lexus 5.0 TTv8 was going to get the gig. I’d even love to see a 5.7L hybrid with a 10sp.

I think you're right-on. As competitors come out with Trucks with drivetrains that are electric variants, I think those who have an opportunity to drive them will see there are benefits in using that technology, that many are taking advantage of right now.

To not offer the capability to haul in electric mode for local sprints in my opinion is a miss-step. Why does Toyota not offer just a regular cab anymore? Why did they drop the 6 seater, the shifter for any drivetrain did not have to be on the floor, but now it does because you can't get it any other way (as far as I know, let me know if that's wrong). They have offered an upgrade in the drivetrain, but they have also removed some configurations which may have appealed to some, and so some for these reasons, will skip this gen for now.

Do you have foresight that tells you this engine is not going to have long term reliability?
