I am thinking they won't fit exactly, but how far off could the holes be? Anyone have experience modifying?

They will fit perfectly as long as the cab length is the same.

RC will fit RC

DC will fit DC

CM will fit CM

You're good to go. I bought a used pair from a 2nd gen CM for my 3rd gen CM, they mounted right up.
