At the beginning of this trip, so thought I'd shoot a note to y'all to see if anyone's done this.

I'd like to add a 360-degree camera kit to my '20 1794. I checked the mirrors, and they do have little caps underneath where it seems the cameras would fit if this was an Avalon or Camry. I found a kit in China, linked below, that seems to fit (not the end of the search by any means). Has anyone else installed a kit? Which one? Did your 3rd-gen head unit accommodate the kit?

    Any advice welcome.

    Kit on alibaba:
    https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...pm=a2700.7724857.normalList.93.5696254cOgtbnu

And in case anyone at TMC is watching - - why the heck doesn't this come standard on your most expensive truck? Seriously... I dropped more coin on that thing than my wife did on her RX... smh.

Waiting on you trying this out...what's a few more dollars spent?! Would you integrate this into you're Entune head unit or an aftermarket setup?

I'm hoping it'll integrate into the HU. I'll be digging into whether the existing backup feed into the unit is the sole existing feed or if there are other inputs; and if the latter, whether the unit manages switching. Probably easier if the answer is no; as long as I can feed the backup camera into whatever DVR I wind up with, along with other cameras, and feed all cameras to that single input.

On the side mirrors, if anyone knows if the little plugs on the underside are just plugs or if they're something else, I'd appreciate the info before I try to pry them up. I'm hoping they're plugging holes that will accommodate the side cams, but typically when I've put hope in one hand...

This will likely take me most of the year to research (busy guy most of the time...), and there are smaller projects in front like the driver's side oh-shit, and some chrome deletion. I'll update the forum with anything solid I discover or do.

That is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. I'm exasperatingly particular with research, so I may not purchase for months; but I'll update the forum on which products I install. That's a great place for the vertical screen HU as well, which may find its way onto the list of things I do to the truck (there's a wife that may need convincing...). Thank you sir.

Thanks very much. I'm going to try to keep the OE backup cam, and add cams to the side mirrors and front of the truck for 'Bird's Eye View' backup and driving assistance. Several Toyota cars have it, and that's one place I'll be looking for answers; but we'll see what happens.

If I had the time to research I would find a way to engage my front cam on my Phoenix HU when in drive going 5 mph or less

I think my wife's RX has this; and if it's controlled by a separate node from the HU (part of current research), and input to the HU is via one feed, that's probably the best solution. Then just to solve how to integrate that with a two-way dash cam...

Does the 1794 Edition come with the puddle lights on the bottom of the side mirrors or are they exclusive to the Platinum? I’m wondering if the ‘plugs’ you’re referring to are where those puddle lights would be installed.

    DING ! DING ! DING ! ! !

Not only does the 1794 HAVE the puddle lights, those ARE the puddle lights. I might use the excuse that it's a new truck and I haven't had time to find out everything about it; but honestly it won't be the last time you catch me being an idiot.

    Thanks very much for that.

Are you considering removing the puddle lights and replacing them with the 360 camera?

Hmm... I should let the hamster spin that wheel around a while. Right now I'm a no; but I can see where I'd change that should the whole endeavor take better shape. It is the spot one would expect the cameras to live...

My wifes 2018 Highlander birdseye/front cam comes on @ 5mph or below, sure would be nice to have the front cam to come on with the Tundra @ 5 or below.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    Few questions and thoughts...
Regarding the 'little plugs on the underside', are you referring to where the puddle lamps go? If not, can you take a pic of what you're referring to?

Are you ultimately wanting a single 360 image like some of the new cars have, that blend the images of the multiple cameras, or are you just wanting to add side view cameras?

If the later, I was considering adding a blind spot monitoring system (one per side-view mirror) like this one. The system features note that the video feed turns on (and would display on the head unit) when the turn signal is turned on, which is precisely the type of set up I want. Additionally, I would want to add a toggle switch (for left-side view, off, right-side views), similar to the front-view, off, rearview on the FRAC harness switch.

I asked the FRAC harness creator for his thoughts on this system working with the FRAC harness to which he noted, that if install downstream from the FRAC Harness, it looks like it could be compatible. He also noted though that this system requires cutting/splicing into the factory harness wires so it would not be plug and play.

I think this system is great, and something to think about; but I think the radar-based BSM that comes on the truck is sufficient for that job. I really am looking for the bird's eye that newer cars come with. I know I'm hunting for something perfect; but one would think a camera feed could be used to solve both problems if they fed the right controller.

I looked into similar kit from Amazon. It's a little bit more expensive, but I can return it a lot easier if I do not like the products or if it's DOA.

Puddle lights = awesome. There is some extra room in the housing if you want to mount extra gear2163FF97-D849-4E28-999E-580003369AAC.jpg
