Has anyone installed 34x9-16 interco super swampers on their 1st gen?

I'm setting my tundra up for offroad use and really like super swampers. Im trying to figure out the largest tire I can fit on the oem wheel.

I want to stick with stock offset if i can so i do not effect steering radius. And i dont want to have to limit my up travel too much if at all. I have the 3"/2" spacer lift.

With those tires, I hope your truck never leaves the dirt:D

in all seriousness, I’d stick with a 285 tire if using a stock rim.

    285/75r16 is significantly wider. I'm
concerned that additional width will not stuff up in my fender nice or at full turn in one direction or the other with up travel the tire will contact the frame. We have trail access right from my house the tundra will be registered but wont see much pavement. Almost exclusively a woods rig.

255/85/16 is probably the coolest tire size you can put on a gen 1 for the skinny look

I think I was a little spaced out from work. Didn’t pay attention to any numbers besides 34” Hbjeff made a good point about the 255 33” inch equivalent, that would be a great size to run for an off road rig. I should have been more clear, 285 would be max width for the 7 inch stock rim.

You could always get different wheels and just trim the fenders and flares.

Are you talking about the Q78-16’s?
Great tire for stock wheels on these trucks. Couple of my friends ran them on their Tacoma’s.
You’ll still have to attack the pinch weld with a BFH though.

The only way I see that working is some serious trimming.

But I'd say serious trimming, aftermarket UCAs, and ditching the lift spacers and blocks for a decent suspension lift is your best bet.

I love tsl tires but would not run that size on this truck. On a mini truck without a real bed and a 22re they are good for about 7500 miles.

I do have a super old white walled 34x9.5 on a steelie. Not sure the offset but I could attempt to mount it or at least roll it up to the truck but is is a “high mileage” tire so it’s practically bald.

I have run a few sets of trxus mt and they rock. Way better than tsl radials, great in the snow and look awesome.

255/85r16 is a great suggestion ty. 1 inch shorter and 1 inch wider.

I am less concerned with the look as I am with the function off road. I'm going from a tj with 32inch Q78 tsl super swampers to the tundra. And I'd like to keep the tundra's turning radius as tight as possible.

A bit of fender trimming is not an issue. Im wondering if the 34x9 is skinny enough to clear the frame on the stock rim at full (suspension) compression. I figure if a 255/85R16 is clearing it then the 34x9 shouldn't have any problem.

Im not really concerned about the tire wear I wont even have the tires balanced as the truck will see very little road use. I'll probably get another set of radial wheels and tires for any road use.

A different/better lift is not in the budget right now.

    You.could.tried wheel.spacers if you can't clean frame a full stuff/lock

this was the only picture I found of an Interco 34x9 16 tire on a tundra. I say get them and pound, cut, chop and weld the front as needed:welder:

Ok. I really wasn’t caring about the vehicle itself. But I do know those wheels came on early first gen tundras. That is also the rear of that particular vehicle. Picture still confirms tire fitment on those wheels:thumbsup:

I like the tall skinny look but can’t say anything good about super swamper tires. My last set of tsl’s started splitting and cracking pretty bad less than a year after buying them and interco said they would only consider warranting them if I dismounted them and paid to have them shipped form Missouri to Louisiana so they could inspect them. Ended up they said my tires that were only a couple 32nds less tread than new were only worth a $300 credit towards a new set.

Truth is you'll just have to try it out. The 9" width may seem good but stock rims ride deep towards the frame, combine that with 34" knobs and you're probably going to be thuthuthuthumping off the frame at full lock. At half turn, especially in reverse, you'll probably bounce off the pinch welds.

The pizza cutter 255/85 should be fine as an alternative.

I've read a few times about reverse and bigger tires. Why is reverse different?

@bmf4069 I think it changes the caster angle when you back up. For whatever reason I for sure rub more when I'm reversing out of my driveway, which has an incline and acts like a dip at the transition to street.
