32.2 gal tank, worth the extra money?

    Hey Ya'll,

I am thinking about purchasing a SR5 TRD Off-Road DC but I would have to get the TRD Premium package to have the larger 32 gal tank which is about $7,000 USD more than the standard TRD Off-road package. The Premium package does come with softtex seat, larger screen, BSM and more.

So my question is, those of you that have previous generations with the larger tank is it worth it?

I'm also considering with the higher MPGs the frequent refills should be reduced.

    Thank for your feedback.

Where are you speccing this? Canada? The 32 gallon comes on the convenience package. I absolutely would not go with the 22 gallon tank. My Chevy has a 24 gallon tank and the limited range gives me heartburn.

Yes, you don't need the premium package to get the larger fuel tank. You just need the TRD convenience package which is about $1500 and includes BSM. I think if going SR5 you also get the painted mirror caps which is not shown with the vehicle render on their website.

The new MPGs aren't so much better as to offset the smaller tank.

The TRD Convenience package is like $1570 which includes the tank and BSM and parking sensors, that’s what I got.
It was a must have package for me

This was on a crew max off road package btw

For some reason the double cab only has two TRD OR options. No option to add the convenience package unless you get the expensive package.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Aside from wealth a man can never have too much:

1.) Ammo in the gun or on your body in loaded magazines, or linked belt in a gunfight. Or in your ammo locker.

    2.) Good books/knowledge.

    3.) Good whiskey.

    4.) Good quality tools.

5.) Fuel capacity in your vehicle.

If you live by those 5 tenants of basic operating decisions you will become wealthy. Attractive women will beg to bear your children and make you delicious sammiches after intimacy making said children. Your children will be intellectually and athletically gifted. Other men will look up to you and seek your wisdom.

Coal Dragger has provided the only answer needed, for almost any of life’s decisions.

But I will pile on and say GET THE BIGGER TANK. You will hate yourself if you don’t.

2018 owner with a 38 gal tank, and I thank myself to this day, even when filling up.

    …Especially when going toward empty.

Nothing better than being able to go down the road for 500+ miles without a fill up! I could stretch it further but I start looking for gas at 1/4 tank.

I would go bigger. I have 36 gallons and plan on supplementing with a Titan Tanks sidekick 15 gallon to add some additional range.

I'm not sure that's the case - at least not for replacement gas tanks.

Look at the 2021+ F150, there are no replacement gas tanks yet. Although you could option the F150 with a 36 gallon fuel tank from Ford and there may not be a demand for something in the 40 gallon range.

With the new laws/regulations, making aftermarket replacement gas tanks has become more difficult relative to a diesel tank.

100% agree get the larger tank from the factory

I am seeing the same issue with the Off Road package on the Crew Cab - You seem to need the Advanced Package to get the bigger tank which is $8200 in its cheapest form with the Off Road. I would go for the TRD Sport Premium where you can get it with convenience for $4200 unless i’m missing something

I just got the 46 gal TF fuel tank delivered for $1860 and some change back in October. Loving the new capacity and range it's given me. My wallet would say otherwise though. The 26 gal in my '07 was abysmal.

OP, get the bigger tank. It's better to have and not need than need and not have.

After I read your post I tried it out with different zips.

Sure enough you can't get a big tank on the DC unless you mega option it out.

But you CAN spec it on the TRD Sport

    That sucks.

If I couldn't wait I would simply get the crewmax instead.

I really need that big tank> every other option.

The online build tool is shit. I have a 22 SR5 DC 4x4 with the TRD offroad package and TRD convenience package. Those are the only packages I have. It exists you may just have to call dealerships until you find it. I'm in Oregon if that matters but there were a few around the state when I was shopping.

Until you have to fill it up!!

on my 2017 I have the smaller tank (26 gallon) compared to 38. I have no complaints! I have 3 kids so by the time it’s time to fuel up my kids need a break anyways(we all do actually)

It's always fun to pull into non highway gas stations with a 16 to 20 foot trailer... A larger fuel tank gives you more range to choose more accommodating gas stations.

Plus you always have the option of taking a break and not needing to re-fuel.

The cost is the same, you just do it more frequently. I think it's easy to say you don't need a bigger tank until you actually have one. Like I said, I don't know of anybody who has a Tundra with the 38gal tank that comes back and says they wish they had the smaller tank. Now if you already have the smaller tank then ignorance is bliss and you just might not know any better.
