    My Fellow Tundra Owners,

I've been following this forum for a hot minute. I've also been scouring different threads to make sure I'm not double posting, but I'm hoping to call in a favor!

I'm about to pull the trigger on wheel and tire purchase. I have a 2019 platinum with stock suspension. I'm looking at Grid GD11's that someone is selling with Toyo Open Country tires. The specs are 285 70r17 15mm offset with the tires mentioned above.

My question is can I snag these without needing to trim anything? I'd prefer not to, or if I need to, would it be much trimming? I don't know squat about this stuff, so as a newbie, I appreciate any insight!

I had 285/70r17 on my previous set of rock warrior wheels and had no trimming needed, however, it really is up to the wheel's backspacing (width and offset), the more it pushes the tire out, the more it may rub on the front and back of the wheel liner. In terms of rubbing on Upper control arm I think you will be fine either way with 285 width tires.

Right on! That's super helpful -- thank you! And from what I gather, a positive offset (ie +15) the tire would poke out. Is that correct? This is all so new to me... haha. But fun learning! I love it and now I'm going down a dark hole, I can feel it

The stock offset is +60mm so a +15mm would be relatively negative to stock which means pushed out more so I am not sure if it would rub or not. But my rock warrior wheels had a slight less push it than yours and it didn’t rub

Yes, at 15mm offset your tires will be poking out. I have +12mm rims with 275/70 on my truck and they stick out a bit. image-20220112-210717-6a3e8818.jpg

Awesome my man. Super helpful again! I think we'll be fine. And if I have to use a heat gun to bend some plastic, no sweat there. Just don't want to have to cut much to keep things stock as possible. for resale, etc...

I would do it! I hated the stock +60mm rims. I had to remove the mud flaps up front on mine due to rubbing even with a level kit but that was it.

This is the encouragement I need. haha. Yeah, the 20" rims on the plat are goofy. But I love the look and function of some 17's with a ton of rubber. But again, hoping I don't have to modify anything... Sounds like it'll be fine though!

It's a hell of a rabbit hole. Offset is not as simple as "positive equals poke" though. The stock wheels are a +60 IIRC and anything lower will be moving the wheels further out. For example +25 offset has a slight poke, but a -25 would be 50mm further out than the +25s.

As for your original question, it varies by truck. I have 275/70R18 and I had rub. Even after a level I still have rub and should trim/reshape or remove my mud flaps. Not sure how that compares to your intended 17s. Also, read up on the tight fit that 17s can be.

It's SUCH a rabbit hole. From what I collect, it sounds like the wheels I'm looking at are +15, but since the the stock wheels are +60, then that's the number you reference when doing the math. Woof... so confusing.

Anyway, I don't have a leveling kit on mine and it's stock suspension. So shoot... maybe there will be some cutting that needs to happen. At least based off what your saying.

Essentially yes, but you also have to factor in the new tires your getting since they are also going to be wider than the stock ones.

Haaa. For sure... I mean, I have no clue what to factor in against, but I guess I can go forward with the purchase and adjust as needed. They're already balanced and have sensors, so that's a plus! Plus the price for the wheels/tires is a steal so I can't pass it up!

20230208_164528.jpg 20230208_164503.jpg Yes it will fit but depending on offset. RRW 17's 0 offset. I'm getting a tiny bit of rub but going to pin back the fender liner this weekend.
