I just installed the Retrax XR Pro. I love the cover but the instructions might be the worst instructions I've ever used. For anyone buying, I highly recommend just following the instruction videos you find on YouTube. They're much more comprehensive than that manual is.

Also - it was 20% cheaper on Amazon than on the Retrax website.

I installed the Retrax MX and didn’t think the instructions were that bad. Not great, but I’ve been handed worse. Installing the rails to the can was probably the worst part instructions wise, but it wasn’t terrible.

Go to Amazon and look. 1519.00 is the best price I’ve seen for a Retrax Pro XR.

Has anybody here had both Retrax XR and Pace Edwards Ultragroove and can compare? I had a PE Jackrabbit on my Tacoma and really liked it. My SR5 came with the OEM folder and I am not sure I am going to be able to live with it, not being able to lock open in intermediate positions. XR or Ultragroove may be in my future.

Yeah I can only find the retrax one for $1500, the retrax pro goes for $1800 and that’s not better than real trucks special pricing.

I have been keeping an eye on the pro and about 5 weeks ago for an evening it was under 1200 . I was skeptical about the price and worried it was a scam . I fell asleep and the next day it went back up to over 1900 . I hate myself for not pulling the trigger

I got the PowerTrax and had no issues installing them. Agreed the instructions could be better but imho they are good enough for getting the job done. Anyway, where did you struggle? Did you provide feedback to Retrax?

You guys with the Pro XR, how does this cover seal along the sides where the cover slides? is there a rubber seal that presses down on the top? Can someone please post a very close up of the rail and seal? THX.

Yes, there’s a seal (1st pic) and I only have a tiny bit of water intrusion on the side of the tailgate (2nd pic). However, despite the heavy rain here in Cali, nothing out of the ordinary. I’m still impressed and couldn’t be more happier with it. 0E1BB036-E741-4AA1-B23E-01624186749D.jpg714E9419-ECD7-4747-BEC5-03037021DB60.jpg

Interesting. It looks like the seal is part of the movable cover and that there is a gap above it. So maybe more like a little dam than a seal? IOW if water piles up it is going over that and into the rails. At least that's what it looks like from here. The Pace Edwards cover seals are attached to the rails and lay down along the cover edges. Makes a pretty positive seal.

The seal is definitely attached to the rail. Also, I could have moved the whole cover closer to the tailgate but this would have caused an “issue” when opening it via remote or button on the side. So, for me it’s the sweet spot.

Do you have a pic of the retrax with the leitner rack mounted?
I'm looking at a similar setup.
Currently considering Retrax or Pace Edward's, with either a Front Runner or Leitner for the rack.

I don’t, since I have an UpTOP Overland rack, with which I’m happy with. However, I found pictures for the Leitner rack with a Retrax cover on their website (https://www.leitnerdesigns.com/products/acs-forged-tonneau-rack-only-toyota). Otherwise, you may specify your question and possibly somebody else might have an answer. BTW: I like the sliding loadbar. Since I have a RTT mounted permanently, the sliding loadbar wouldn’t add any value. What I like with the UpTOP Overland rack is that the weight of the RTT is distributed across 4 loadbars on the 6.5’ bed.

Thanks! Yeah, I saw the pic on their website. I like the lower profile of the Front Runner, but the leitner allows for a little more storage underneath and I could open the front windows on my tent, as they'd clear the cab. A friend had the uptop on his Tacoma and really liked it.

    1st world problems... I know.

    LOL - true, true

The nice thing about the UpTOP is that you can have it in two different heights. I wanted to have the space underneath as well as the option to add a roof rack and be level with my RTT. To be honest, I didn’t even think about the ability to open all windows… but that is definitely a big plus for the higher rack.

I made a decision! I went with the RetraxPRO XR and UpTop 11-inch bed rack. Both were packed incredibly well, appear to be very well constructed (only had them installed a few days), and were a piece of cake to install. The instructions varied a little, but easy to figure out.

I bought the Retrax from: www.tonneaucovered.com

    UpTop directly from them.

They came with it! They also had some revisions to how it was assembled. They didn't send the correct numbered hardware packs, but it worked. The pieces used to slide in the T-slots were different too. They also quit using lock washers, as of 1/1/23. They had an insert in the kit stating the changes.

Sweet truck! The BFGs look good there. I'd like to put Generals on mine. I had Generals on my 4Runner and loved them. I picked up a set of Pro wheels/tires, so that's good enough for now!

If you have the feature, how's the digital rearview with the bars up (not mounted with any other gear on top)?

Sorry, I don't have the digital rear view. It's right in my line of sight with a standard rear view, but I don't find it difficult to see. I can see below it, and above the tailgate. I can also see above the bar too.
