Morning everyone. This question is for my neighbor who’s a first time truck buyer. He’s been waiting on the new Tundra to come out and doesn’t want the Pro cause he doesn’t want the hybrid battery. He found a 2022 platinum and 1794 2WD for $61k OTD. He’s claiming that’s the list price and no mark up from this particular dealer. (I’m unaware of 2wd prices as I’d only buy 4WD myself. I’ve yet to find any 2022 4wd tundras not marked up in the DFW area.) He put a refundable deposit down on a 2WD platinum MGM. I told him I would not spend that kind of money on a non 4wd pick up. For me I off-road and use 4wd. Other reasons would be the rare occasion we see snow or ice in north TX and need 4wd, job relocation up north (would have to sell your truck), and resale value. He’s now thinking he should cancel for an Off-road 4wd package when it becomes available. Of course this particular dealer has every 4wd sold and has just 2 2022 not reserved a 1794 and his platinum 2wd. Which is also telling on the demand/resale of 2wd trucks. Curious as to the general consensus on this forum. What’s everyone’s take? Would you buy the 2wd if you live in an area that won’t need 4wd often?

I personally would never buy a 2wd truck for the reasons you listed.

I would never purchase a 2wd truck or SUV.

I wouldn’t, but if he is the mall crawler type who is using this is a lux suv that can haul gardening/ house supplies then it makes sense based on location. In the west that is a death sentence
