,. There is exactly zero resemblance to a Ridgeline. Nothing on it - not the lights, the grill, bumpers,....

Yeah, I suppose I can see that too.

On the one hand, I think my Tundra is too tall. On the other hand, this looks like it's been lowered to me, something more suited to driving kids to soccer and the mall than towing, hauling, off roading, camping, hunting, fishing, etc. I get that that's where the market is now but that's not what I bought my truck for.

That’s a cool concept. Needs a V8 still. God bless.

I will never buy a 4th gen. May get a 2021 one day. Will always have my second gen. No V-8 = No way in HELL im buying one. You can’t make a v6 sound good. Just sounds like a bee outta hell. Or a ricer kid who is over compensating. SMH

That silhouette shot in the video was absolutely hideous looking! They are trying to make the Tundra look like a bigger Tacoma, and it is NOT going to work!

I bet they sell a ton of Tundras this year and next for anyone thats been on the fence and doesn't want a V6. The Tundra has always been kind of a niche truck and I dont think its going to do well at all if Ford and Dodge continue to offer v8s and Toyota doesnt.

8-10 mpg gains over a SC Tundra? Don't those get 8-10 mpg less than a stock 5.7?

Silhouette looks like a GM. I see they added the notch in the rear window every other truck has.

I'm not impressed at having to go up to a Limited to get the hybrid.

Having spent a bit of time driving the 3.5 eco boost and 3.5 HO eco boost, I am really excited to see what Toyota can do. Especially with the hybrid system. Of course I wish they sounded as good as a V8, but I will take the performance and economy any day. And flame all you want, but the Raptor doesn’t sound bad in the cab (for those who have actually driven one). They flat ROMP.

Bummer no word on a new transmission. Would love if they pay up and put in the ZF8.

Am sooooo hoping the line above the Platinum is some kind of Platinum / Pro mash up!!

    Hope this all stays true!

For someone who trades up every 5 years Im sure a hybrid and twin turbo is great but batteries in a hybrid need to be replaced which are very expressive and turbos also create more maintenance. A solid v8 is just more reliable for someone interested in keeping a vehicle past warranty. Until they figure a battery technology better than lithium ion that doesn't degrade literally every charge hybrids will never make their money back in fuel economy. The average cost of a pruis battery is over $2000 and thats without labor, now imagine the size of a battery in a Tundra. Batteries dont last forever. So yeah if you're going to trade in after 5 years it wont be a big deal but any longer than that you're going to start having expensive issues.

Battery life isn't much of an issue, Toyota has that figured out - https://www.torquenews.com/1083/can-toyota-prius-battery-last-250000-miles

And with a good system the turbo should be fine - is it as sturdy as a NA, of course not, but it should still be good for a couple hundred thousand miles.

Maybe it doesn't bug me as much since it would be the wife's truck, I would keep my 16, but I'm fine with these changes in the name of fuel mileage - with over 550 lb ft of torque to boot.

I would have to see some real world testing with that Turbo 6. The last one I towed with got about as much towing mpgs as a semi where my current tundra gets 10-10.5 on average towing loads.

you do realize the next gen is technically a 3rd gen. the current model is still considered the 2nd gen.

    1st gen : xk30/xk40 2000-2006
    2nd gen : xk50 / 2007-present

    2007-2009
    2010-2013 1st refresh
    2014-present 2nd refresh

from what i can tell (had to listen several times as what he was saying was confusing) the hybrid looks to be an option on other trims (outside the trd pro/platinum/1794/titanium?). what other trims is unknown (sr5 or limited)

Yeah. There's a reason the big 3 (aside from the F150) are sticking to NA OHV engines.

well if they treat the hybrid system as a boost and not the primary mover (which is what i am thinking since it will still have the v6tt and i think toyota has another new hybrid vehicle that treats the hybrid system as a booster), the battery situation should last a lot longer.

Unless they pull some crazy trickery out there's no way to get a turbo to hold good MPG's during towing, just gets into the boost too much. Have to figure their goal is 25 mpg unloaded, 15 mpg loaded with a typical 7k lb travel trailer. Sounds like they're after the person who drives around town mostly but wants to be able to tow.

15 mpg with a trailer would still be about 5 mpg better than most gas trucks do now.
