What color? Couple hundred dollars if you plan on wrapping yourself. If you have a professional do it, it's going to cost anywhere from 400 to 600ish just for labor based on what I was quoted. Or you can buy the mustache grille surround pieces color matched for around 700ish. I don't know how much it would be to have tour chrome pieces painted since I didn't look into it. I'm in the north Dallas area.

Doing a chrome delete on my 2022 Limited TRD offroad wind chill pearl. Getting rid of the chrome door handles. Anyone want to weigh in on whether to go with flat black handles or with white? The wind chill pearl platinum trim handles are gloss black trimmed with the flat outside part white.

Thanks - that makes sense. Wow nice looking truck! What kind of bumper is that? People in the Dakotas put that type on after they hit their first deer. Scary how many are out there just happily feeding a few feet from the 65 mph traffic.

thank you! I’m in Idaho so the bumper is mandatory, it’s the C4 fabrications full hoop. It’s already taken out 1 deer without a scratch

Depends on whether you want it painted or wrapped. If having the pieces painted, the price may depend on your color. The supersonic red, for example, is a 3 stage paint process (base, pearl, clear). Other paints may be 2 stage (and I believe one of the whites may be only a 1 stage).

Also depends if you want to do any of the work yourself or if you just want to hand the truck to someone and get a finished product back. I took all my pieces off myself, took the pieces to a paint shop, then put it back together myself. My cousin works at the paint shop and gave me a deal, but said the job would have charged $500 if I wasn't getting a hookup. I had the 3 pieces of mustache, the "tundra" piece under the grille, the two rear bumper pieces, and the door handle trim pieces all painted. I didn't pull my door interiors apart to get the full handle assembly off. I just took the chrome covers off (they're just held on with 3M tape and some guide pegs).

Is it difficult to get the handle covers off without breaking them? How do you do it? Thanks!

Pretty easy, just need to take it slow. I started by wedging some plastic shims to create even outward pressure to get the 3m tape to start giving up. Was warm out when I did this, but adding heat would help it. Then just start pulling on one side more than the other, but keep it even. The guide tabs want them to come off straight and not at an angle. Cleaning the tape residue was definitely the worst part.

Nice job! Do you know of anyone who sells the painted covers? Might be cheaper than getting them painted if you are only doing the handles (I already bought the painted wind chill pearl grill surrounds)

I looked around for a while before I started, but couldn't find any. Just the full assembly. Shame too because this way you don't have to take the door panels off every door!

That’s friggin awesome, I thought they looked like they could be removed that way but all the tutorials I see online just have you remove the whole handle assembly which seems to require removing the inner door panel. I think I will try removing the cover as you have done. I like the mat black plastic look as it matches the wheel arches. Does anyone know a way to strip the chrome without damaging it the plastic?

Can you paint over the chrome? I don't know - but I thought that was a problem...

You can, but not all shops will do it. You can't just rough it up and spray it. You have to sand down to a lower level of the plating for good adhesion. Still higher likelihood that it could chip and flake down the road. I had all my chrome painted. Figured it was worth the risk since the rest of my chrome delete cost a lot (holy shit on the OEM window trim!) and what's the worst that could happen - I'd have to buy all the pre-painted or bare parts anyway.

If I told you, I'd probably have to kill you... :spy:

Jokes aside, yes! We'll have our standard colors for the overlays... AND as long as we can get the paint (not difficult, there's a PPG dealer nearby) and there's enough demand for it (that's where y'all come in!), we will make virtually any OEM color!

We're currently working on the final bits for tooling the Gen 3, then we'll prototype, and then we'll sell 'em!

What’s your truck look like? Mines pretty unique in that it’s the only one with a bumper I have seen in all of Idaho and haven’t seen anyone else with a cap yet either. I live up on the bench

BE572D25-8B18-4B67-B74F-C0AB90A644FA.jpg Here is a picture with the LEER topper. OEM lift kit going on December 15th. It’s in the garage so had to tilt photo to get the whole truck in photo. My son-in-law works on the Cirrus Vision Jet. They say that the chrome is difficult to prep and paint and can’t guarantee the finish will hold up. So I’ll probably wait until I can get a painted part to put on there. I don’t really like the idea of replacing the door handles. Especially taking the door apart and trying to pull off that butyl moisture barrier. Especially in the winter.

I'll try to convince my painter that Lunar Rock is a good option, but when we've discussed it in the past, he has said, "every lunar rock is slightly different. I'm worried that they won't get the truest color match possible". Which is a weird thing for him to say since our OEM Painting matches very, very, very, very close to EVERY truck but we can never guarantee a full match due to the truck owner's paint condition (fading, weathering, etc.) So it leads me to believe he wouldn't feel confident with us selling them.|

Despite all that negativity I just spewed, we only source our paint from PPG Authorized Retailers, so you would be receiving the painted part using paint as formulated by the Toyota factory. Which, again, matches a truck 99% of the time. I don't think we've ever received a paint color match return with the reasoning of the color not looking right.

Thanks for the info. Just food for thought on the 22 Tundras. These trucks are very new and the paint should be as well. So maybe convince your painter on that note. Paint variation shouldn’t be of concern but I’m no painter. Lol
