I got my cat shields installed today. I think the one piece cover that covers the transmission and cats is a better approach. These made sense at the time but it seems that every manufacturer is making the cover to extend over the cats.

I just installed mine from Lostar. Great fit. Fairly easy install. $310 is a good price too.

Well to save you some trouble...I can tell you it fits. I measured a Tundra hybrid using some high quality images and referencing the outside diameter of the driveshaft to get some approximate hole-to-hole dimensions, it came within 1/4". So I ordered your aluminum shield with ribs, it arrived today and I installed an hour ago. Fitment was perfect.

Therefore, if anyone finds this thread...yes, the Tundra hybrid and Sequoia hybrid have identical configurations up to the tranny crossmember as far as I can tell. Talon's skid/ cat shield not only fits the Sequoia, but fits with the TRD Pro skid, and also looks pretty sweet.

To think I just 3d scanned a sequoia to work on this!

I had a feeling it was close but didn’t measure anything yet.

Well the 3d scan probably isn't pointless if you did the whole undercarriage...I'm assuming aft of the tranny crossmember has some differences due to the pickup bed versus third row body configuration. Especially the fuel tank that sits pretty low and the factory tank "skid" that looks like it could be damaged by a large pebble. If you end up designing a rear skid, I'm ready.

    The scans are never worthless!

having all three, Tundra, hybrid tundra and sequoia will let me design around all three, this making one product fit all, and greatly reducing our need for extra storage and overhead.

I am going to be working on the transfer case plate soon after I finish this Bronco project, and a fuel tank skid is probably in the near future.

I ordered this from Talon's garage on Sunday. It shipped Tuesday and arrived today. It's a beautiful piece of work.

I came across this news article from Jan 13th. It really shows the lengths these jerks will go to! This site is in Southern Ontario. They used a site back hoe and flipped 8 trucks onto their sides to steal the cats.

Ok so I just finished installing the Miller cat shield on my 2023. First I want to say it is a really well made product, but Here’s my 2cents for what it’s worth.
    -edges were super sharp.
    - missing 1 screw.(called and left a message)
    - the screws they give you for the front that pass through the front skid do not have washers and the heads seem too small. I pressed and drilled out the washers from the oem bolts and used those. See pic.

Bought the Talon Garage steel plate at a discount, powder coating was fine. Installation was quick and easy.

I'm too broke after buying this rig to afford mods.
MillerCat installed! All hardware present and accounted for. Assembly was easy and the aluminum is pretty thick, but not as robust as my TRD skid.

I had to bend the TRD skid "hanger" hook a bit to accommodate the cat shield. Same issue with the bolt heads not being wide enough to completely fill the TRD skid rear bolt holes. Washers solved the problem but IMO they should have been included.

Oil changes will be fun because the two bolts are shared and there is no alternate front mount to keep the cat shield in place when the TRD skid is removed. Not sure I am completely on board with that design decision there.

Overall I am glad I have the shield since CA has out of control tweaker thieves and hopefully this will inspire them to look elsewhere for an easier target.

Miller cat sent me out a replacement bolt asap. Interesting you had to bend the tab on the Trd skid. I was able to get it in no bending.

I looks great. I installed the Talon's garage cat plate. Because of the TRD skid plate oil change issue they made two notches that match the two clearance holes in the frame. They also provided one extra long button head bolt to go between the cat plate and the frame. That way when you remove the TRD skid plate the front of the cat is still being supported. I used the hole on the passenger side because it had more room. If you drill a hole that matches this hole that could work. If there is enough room you could tap down on a transfer punch from the top to mark the location. The TRD skid plate has bosses so it seems to miss the head of the bolt. The bolt is also a large button head.

Looking to install a Talon’s with the OEM TRD skid plate. Can I reuse the factory bolts that hold the TRD plate on after the Talon is mounted with the one long bolt on the passenger side?

It might work but there may not be much in terms of the number of threads on the threaded insert. The length of the threads from the captive washer to the end is about 3/4". So with the TRD skid plate alone there is about 1/2" of threads going into the threaded insert in the frame. I did not measure the threaded insert but it did look like there is probably about 1/2" of threads. The issue with using the same bolt with the CAT plate is that you will be down to only 1/4" of threads. It also looks like this bolt may taper down slightly at the end. So it may be just hanging on. They do provide a longer bolt for these two locations when you order the CAT plate from Talons.

You can also order longer bolts with the same thread pattern from Toyota, PN: 90119-A0537. The washer is not as wide but it worked for me.

I ordered the hybrid cat shield from Talon's garage on a Tuesday and it arrived by Saturday. The workmanship is outstanding and the fitment is very good.

    talons-garage-cat-plate-hybrid-1.jpg

    talons-garage-cat-plate-hybrid-3.jpg

I was initially considering the Taco Tunes cat shield, but the one from Talon's is 1/4 inch aluminum, and the Taco Tunes one is 3/16 inch thick and costs more than Talon's for the hybrid version.

I like how this one is designed. The center panel is all one piece from front to rear, with two winglets that bolt onto the sides. Looks to be extra rigid since the bends are longitudinal from front to back on all three pieces. You can even get additional ribs welded in as an option, but I don't off-road (much) and figured it should be sturdy enough the way it is.

You might see a dent/blemish on the leading edge in the upper left of the first picture, and upper right of the second. I'm pretty sure that happened during shipping (the box was fairly beat up). It shouldn't affect functionality at all. I just filed it smooth.

I went with the standard Allen bolts, not the security bolts. I'm guessing no thief in a hurry is going to futz around with an Allen wrench trying to get those bolts out. It was hard enough getting them in. (Hope I'm right.)

Be aware the included mounting nuts and bolts are a mix of metric and SAE. That had me a little confused for a second or two. "Why doesn't this Allen wrench fit? I swear I checked this at the bench! Ugh!" If I recall correctly, the front bolts are metric, 5 mm, which makes sense since they fit the holes that are threaded from the factory. Same for the winglet mounting bolts, with 13 mm nuts. The longer rear bolts are 7/32 Allen with 9/16 nuts.

I have a Talon's garage cat plate on a 23 Tundra Crew cab. I noticed recently that I would get a ping type noise when I would get in the truck and when I turned at slow speeds backing out the driveway. I remembered when installing it that the center of the plate press up against the center of the cross frame member. This bothered me when I installed it. When tightened down the plate was slightly bent. I thought that this stress between the plate and frame may be causing the ping noise when getting in and the first few turns due to stresses between the two. So I installed a stack of 3/8 x 1 1/2 fender washers. About 8 on driver's side and 7 passenger side. This moved the plate away from the frame with a small gap. Both of these ping noises have gone away.

Installed the steel plate from Talons on my ‘23 CrewMax TRDOR. Perfect fit! 1200 mi. now and not a peep or vibration from it. Love the design where it stays put while removing the TRD skid for oil changes. Great customer support too. Answered a call in real-time. A+++ Definately recommended. IMG_2217.jpg IMG_2215.jpg

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
When I turn or navigate along uneven surfaces, I get creaking sounds. I need to check underneath if I put my miller cat shield on too tight or something. Wish I didn't live in an area where we care more for the well-beings of thieves.

You need to add washers in between each plate.

This is a common problem with cat plates. I've got the Talons garage cat plate and had the same issue. One of the problems is that you likely have frame rub on the back cross member that the cat plate mounts to. The back cross member has a lot of curvature. It took several rubber washers to space mine off to avoid frame rub. Also, I have tried steel fender washers, nylon fender washers and large rubber washers. The rubber washers by far work the best. If you have at least one rubber washer between the skid plate and the frame and you don't have frame rub you shouldn't have the noise any more. It took a stack of washes on the back to avoid the frame rub (see picture below). I used 1 1/2 OD, 1/2 ID, 1/8thk washers from eBay. I bought a 25 pack. I used a stack of about 6 to 7 on the back two holes and 1 on the fronts. You want to keep a rubber washer between the plate and the frame and space the plate off of the frame.PXL_20231203_205849023.jpg
