Got my TT plate installed today. It was well made and took about 5 minutes.

Also bought from Talon, the black powder steel one. I was concerned about weight a bit with not going aluminum, but my steel one weighed 35 pounds. I'm sure the aluminum is lighter, but 35 pounds is pretty good for being steel, IMHO.

I went for an RCI skid plate and a Talon cat plate.
The thought process was the RCI skid has an access port for oil changes. The talon didnt.
The Talon plate is a nice wide aluminum piece. (well I went that Alum.) RCI was ok but they charged extra for cat protection on their mid section piece.
Since the metal thickness was the same, Talon was cheaper and better protection.

Like Paul I did consider the weight of the steel talon vs the aluminum but it’s on a big truck already, I love the black even if it can’t be seen and is more sturdy. Both Talon and RCI powder coating are great and I can always touch it up with bed liner spray if needed.

I also thought the way RCI does the cat cover is complicated and expensive as well. Still very happy with my choice of Talon for that.

I'm too broke after buying this rig to afford mods.
What do you guys think about Miller CAT shields? I have one on my Taco and so far, so good. I was happy with the product and the installation, and (knocks on wood) so far no CA tweakers have stolen them.

    https://catshield.com/products/millercat-toyota-tundra-g3-cat-shield?variant=43456488276217

Was thinking of going with them again for the Tundra. I will have the TRD skid plate, and I read things here about bending this, it won't fit that... wanted to get a take on it.

    Gracias!

Installed the talon cat shield on my limited Hybrid. Went with aluminum. No issue with the skid because my limited with the TRD OR package also came with a crappy tiny plastic one. Overall I'm very happy with it. Easy install.

Curious if anyone has it. Seems like if you need to bend and manipulate stuff they didn’t do a great job with the design. My Talon cat guard was perfect but non hybrid but someone else just posted mounting a hybrid with no issues. We were both in the Toyota screwed us on engine skid plates but my talon cat guard matched up perfect with my RCI engine skid plate and from everything I’ve read the TRD one is the same. Just has the logo.

That’s a pricey item, it had better match up perfectly tbh.

they really screwed us both with our “off road skid plate”. I’ll remain salty over that till I die.

It is pricey, but I am really worried about CA tweakers. Use GEARIST for a discount code, it worked for me.

@Talon2006 I purchased your steel cat shield for my 23 Tundra. When are you all coming out with a steel skid plate to match? Also, I saw no torque specs on the installation instructions and took my truck into the dealer for what I thought were steering noises. It turned out my cat shield was loose.

Is this on a 3rd gen or 2nd gen? Reason I ask is that on 3rd gen the oil filter and drain plug are not near each other so I don't understand how a door on the skid plate would help?

@Talon2006 Please let me know when you have an updated installation video for NON hybrid (steel cat plate if that makes any difference). Thanks.

Can I install it on a hill and it still be a good install or is it recommended/required to install on a level surface? I have the steel Talon’s cat protection shield.

Its four bolts.... two in front and two in the back for the cat shield. Very easy to install. Best to have a second set of hands to hold it while fitting it.

My install was on my 2023 (3rd gen)

The door on the skid plate is for access to the oil filter area and think there is a hole for where you can drain the oil. I'll take a look to see how thing line up.

Yes, please have a look and post the result when you get a chance. I'd like to see how this works and if oil changes can really be done without dropping the skid plate, like I have to do with my TRD skid plate. If so, it might be worth it for me to swap to the RCI piece.... and sell the TRD.

Pardon for me being a little slow, but could you post a close up photo of the front skid with the door on the truck? Seems to me the door would have to be huge to allow you to reach both the filter and the drain plug. I am very curious to see this in situ.

You can fit a ratchet and cap into there. No removal of the skidplate needed
Is it easy and roomy? No but there is enough room to do the job.

    745F2616-A0DD-41D1-9D0D-19FB8F1C825A.jpg Just an FYI.

I am adding an oil door to our front skid.

you really don’t need an oil door on the front skids to get to the filter, but I’m adding it since so many seem to want the door.

Now this arrangement makes sense... the door is only for the filter. But that hole for the drain plug is small and I don't see how you can drain the oil without making a big mess. Oil doesn't shoot straight down and out for the entire drain, it curls later in the process and can even move with the wind if you are outdoors. Seems like a lot of oil would miss the hole and be caught inside the skid plate.

Alot of folks use a Fumoto oil drain with a hose attachment. Hooks onto the Fumoto nipple and can be drained outside the engine compartment.

Does the hybrid version of your cat shield fit a Sequoia by chance? Looking at the undercarriage photos the rigs appear to be identical up to the tranny crossmember.

I do have a sequoia coming by the 28th and will be scanning it.

Will this be compatible with your cat shield? I would assume yes, but thought I should ask. I currently have your steel cat shield and the Toyota TRD aluminum front skid. So far Toyota is doing the oil changes but when that ends I'll see how hard it is to remove the TRD skid. If it's more work that I want long term I would consider selling the TRD skid and putting in your steel skid if it has the oil door. I'll have to see first hand how much the oil door is really needed too :) Thanks for catering to your customer base Talon2006. Good business operation :)
