    Hi all -

Just purchased a 2021 Tundra 4x4 5.7L engine TSS and looking for a travel trailer to tow.

Thinking that the gross trailer weight, fully loaded, should be in the 6000# range.

Wondering what travel trailers you are towing?

We had a Duramax and a 33' TT with 2 slides. A motorcycle power ramp for our Electra-Glide was mounted in the standard truck bed. We also had a 42' diesel pusher towing a Jeep 4 door Wrangler.

Need something that is easier to handle/lighter but are interested in build quality.

    I would appreciate your input.

    Thank you,

    Scott

just to "be that guy", please be mindful of your payload capacity as it should likely be the limiting factor in your considerations. WDH is your friend, but also costs some of that precious payload. These trucks will tow a good load but hauling is not a strong suit. My payload on my SR5 is 1370 lbs. Some upgrades, some people, and some gear = not a lot left for tongue weight.

Having said that, these are great trucks when used for their intended purpose. Enjoy!

I just bought a Gulfstream 23RSS Vintage Cruiser that tops out at 6060# With a battery, two 20# propane tanks and a whopping 28 gallon of water leaves me with about 1,600 to add. These are supposed to be some of the "better" quality trailers but mine sure isn't. Either the Forest Rivers are really bad or being built in Jan 2021 during the Covid Craze has something to do with all the problems I'm finding. The only items required to be replaced are the mattress (a personal choice) and the kitchen faucet ( piece of junk).
I've found loose connections on every water joint, a rubber washer on the floor instead if inside the shower drain and wires and water lines in need of wire ties underneath that would in time cause problems.
If you can afford it, buy an Airstream. I didn't want to spend x3 on and Airstream so I'm spending my time waiting on my new SR5 to be delivered getting the new trailer ready.20210826_161648.jpg

I've heard the Forest Rivers are really good but I'm not following what their quality has to do with your Gulfstream.

We had a 2019 Forest River Grey Wolf. Build quality was good, never had any major issues. The 1/4 wall board in the bath room had nails that were not quite in the stud so after a trip it would separate and stick out an inch. Re-nailed it and was good after that. There will be sawdust in cabinets, but other than those things all good. Only sold it because we didn't use it enough.

Sorry to hear that about the Vintage Cruiser. My in-laws have had theirs for about 4 years and it's been really good with no real issues. My Forest River (GeoPro) has been absolutely flawless.

For the OP, just watch that tongue weight and your payload. Even with my 21' trailer at about 4200 lbs loaded, I am absolutely at the max for my payload. I have to load carefully as my tongue weight is actually far above what was advertised.

That's the only downside of Forest River that I've come across and one of the reasons I'm leaning towards a Grand Design instead.

The Forest River group is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. The old standby quality brands such as Coachmen and Winnebago are owned by FR groups as well. The Gulfstream Company is a privately owned corporation and I would have expected better. The overall design is actually pretty good but the assembly quality is below what I expected. I do believe the Covid era workforce had a lot to do with it.20210826_161904.jpg

I’ll be picking up an Escape 19 at the end of this month, ordered it almost a year ago. 3800 dry, 5000 gross. Escape Trailer Industries is still building quality. Majority of the issues are related to the RV grade appliances that they have no control over.
