I don't like that I have to ask a basic question amongst such knowledgeable people but I'm about the change the oil in my Tundra after running out of free changes with the dealership. My question is about the oil drain plug gasket. I'm hoping the dealership removed the plastic ring that came from the factory (based on youtube videos) but is this a part I need to replace with each oil change? And does this part typically come with the filter?

Get one or two to have just in case. They don't come with the filter. I've never had to replace an oil drain gasket on my personal vehicles, ever.

Thanks, I'm assuming most auto parts stores should have this?

They really should, but I now see at the bottom of this thread, a link to Genuine Toyota Oil Drain Plug Gaskets from Amazon. If you can spare the time, order some before your next change so that you have some on hand just to cover yourself.

I noticed that when Google took me to Amazon for the filter wrench.

Huh, that link was such a simple thing to do, but I goofed it up twice. It's now fixed.

That was my bad. I googled it earlier that was a suggested item.

You're link is fine. I didn't know if Amazon was just trying to get more money from me.

My local dealer charges an arm and a leg for most parts but oil plug gaskets they usually hand out a couple free of charge. Go figure.

    Too many, but not enough....
Get yourself a fumoto valve and you'll never have to mess with that gasket again

Not a basic question at all! The fiber M12 gaskets are the only gaskets that wont seep and maintain some torque on the drain plug. If you go to an auto parts store, all you can find is a variety pack for $6 that has two that will actually fit. If I could find ten packs of these, like quantity 10 that are the same, I would buy them right now.

Make sure to buy your filter from your Toyota dealer. Don't buy it from Amazon. Most Toyota parts bought off Amazon are counterfeit. The dealer will also give you the oil plug gasket for free.

Never got a free one - but I think they cost about $.82. Only bought a couple before going to fumoto valve.

The dealer I use always adds them to the box. Ask, they might. I know lots like to use the fumoto valve for convenience but consider that if you hit something on the road and knock the valve off you could loose your oil then the motor.
