2021 Tundra Head Unit Apps

    So one thing I haven't yet figured out is how to download more apps to the trucks head unit. I have the Toyota app on my phone, so I can unlock, start etc my truck, but there seems to be limited functionality for the apps. After some research I thought I needed the Entune app, but it won't let me register, it just says to download the Toyota app?! :annoyed:

    Anyone with a new truck that's had this problem? How did you solve it?

    From what I understand Toyota depricated the Entune app and no longer support it.

    Thanks SaltyHero, so with Entune gone, is there away to add apps to the truck? I'd like it to have more functionality without having to plug in my phone.

    What is/was the purpose of Entune? I was told it was rolled into the Toyota app, but the two seem to be for different things. I had trouble downloading it until I bought a WiFi subscription. Then it worked. I must also tell the other person who had trouble as well.

    Understood. You might try using BT, but if your phone is still too old to really get any useable function out of that, then you’re probably looking at replacing the head unit (or replacing your phone).

    I had the same experience as someone else here, I cannot find the post. In any case, after constantly being prompted, I tried to download the Entune as it kept saying it was required to use this or that...but each time I tried it failed. At that time I had not yet realized that just turning on WiFi does not connect you, you need to pay for a subscription. Meanwhile, I had called this number for the TBEC at 800-331-4331 to ask a few questions and she told me the Entune doesn't work with 2021, as it's been folded into the Toyota App....

    Later, after I bought the WiFi subscription, it prompted me again to download it and I tried it and this time it was successful. But, I don't see that it made any difference.

    My complaint is, even though I can play anything on my phone through BT or ACP, some apps icons do not show up on the ACP screen. For example, Apple's podcast app sucks so I use Podcruncher which is MUCH better. I can still use it but it does not show up as an icon on the ACP screen. I guess you have to ask the creators of the app to make it compatible...

    At least the Safety Connect and Remote Connect give you a year free. (I don't need Service Connect as I am responsible enough to know when to go in for oil changes, etc) I don't think the WiFi gave you anything free. Sirius is 3 months free, but I won't renew it as I don't need more radio stations. I tend only to listen to talk, and the songs on my iPhone.

    Ok so last but not least, all those buttons on my mirror.... I shall look those up today.

    And I am still waiting for my LEER cap, and then will change my icon to the new truck (it still shows the 2008). I do miss the CD player in the old truck...

    I am worried about all the yellow pine pollen getting in between the bedliner and the truck's metal and hope I can wash it out before the cap goes on. Never had to wait this long for a cap!

    See my experience. Apps have to be made to show on the ACP, many do not. Only certain ones. But that does not mean you can't use for example, your generic file manager where you may have saved podcasts or other podcast apps. I do love the Audible, that would not have made sense to not include that as I just love listening to books on my commute.

    Ok so the buttons on the rear view mirror are for garage door openers and such! Who knew? Awesome. I'll have this thing figured out completely in a few more days. :)

    Hope you saw what I posted about this, if not here it is again. Not saying this solved anything, but it kept prompting me to download Entune but the download would fail. So when I called the 800 help line they said 2021 is not compatible so it's not needed. Later, when I bought a WiFi subscription, it said the download was successful, although I don't see anything it did. They said Entune was wrapped in the Toyota app. I thought they were for different things. I suppose no harm done, I just wish more of my apps would show up in ACP. My contacts/phone number show up in ACP, but if you are using BT, you need to add them. I figure I'll just add a few of my most important and emergency numbers. There is also a button that is activated by the Safety Connect subscription, covered with a little see-through plate so you don't press it by accident. It is to call for help. Being a woman who travels alone, I like that.

    I'd say all in all the computer system is a bit confusing to use, but once you figure it out, you have everything you need. I like the fact that for short trips to the store I can listen to my podcast without bothering to hook up, which in the past, I never did due to the fact you had to plug into the audio aux plug.

    I love how the mirror tells me what direction I'm headed since often I have no clue.. hahahaha.

    So I just got a 2021 OR yesterday. I’m having trouble entering the code for the remote connect. When I go into the radio I click menu/apps then “don’t show this again/ok” and the screen is blank. Nowhere to enter the code. Anyone have any help with this?

    I clicked the emergency button and asked the operator. You might have to wait a few minutes, but it worked for me.

    I’ve never seen an emergency button. In the truck? Or on your phone? Wondering if my head unit needs to be updated. It tells me to download Entune like sone of the other guys have experienced

    If you want to use Safety Connect or Remote Connect you have to enable it, and then pay for a subscription. Same with the WiFi. THEN and only then can you download/update Entune which they said was deprecated into the Toyota app but it still downloaded for me once I had done the above things. Safety and Remote Connect give you a year free.

    You cannot add apps to the ACP unless they are created for it. I have written to the Podcruncher people to see about that since their app is MUCH better than the Apple version which DOES show up in ACP.

    OK try this number.. They were the ones who told me Entune was not compatible with my 2021 unit but it seemed to update after I bought the WiFi.

    No I did not have that problem. My situation was that Entune kept prompting me to download, but it always failed. After I bought a WiFi account, it said it was successful. Things seem to work OK now, although as a computer tech, the whole system is hella confusin'.... :)

    Yeah my issue is that my head unit won’t give me the opportunity to enter the code and enable connected services. It’s on my phone, VIN entered, etc. but when I press apps it goes to a blank screen with (infotainment) on the left side

    If this were a regular computer, I'd say do a reboot... but not sure how to do that with this.
