got it. beaut. do you have a lift post-op pic? I assume the lift is required to do anything bigger than the stock Mich’s, even to the 285s?

 

I don’t have a pic. Westcott has a ton of YouTube vids on the lift kit and the process.

Are these different than what come with the Pro? I thought it already came with TRD Fox Shocks from the factory.

 

Yes it comes stock with the fox setup.
The Westcott is designed to work properly with the fox setup. I’ve had zero issues with it installed.

 

@Octave would you mind when you have a moment listing the parts you used when installing the Kenwood? Harnesses, adapters etc...? Just trying to hit you up while its fresh in your mind, and this system is bound to be different than my Tundra was...since it's JBL. Appreciate it!

 

Here is the list of parts to replace the stock head unit…..

- Metra 99-8220 dash kit
- iDatalink Maestro RR interface module
- iDatalink HRN-RR-TO3 wiring harness

- Metra 40-LX21 Antenna Adapter

Be sure to update to the most current firmware on all electric components i.e. Maestro RR, new head unit.

 

You can also use the iDatalink Maestro RR2 instead of the RR.

the only difference is it gives you 4 auxiliary 12v outputs that you can toggle on and off from the head unit (depending on which one you get) to run anything you want like lighting, winch, ejection seat

be sure to use relays (just to be safe) if you go that route with the RR2/outputs…..

 

So you didn’t need or don’t use the SiriusXM tuner? Also assuming you went with the matte black dash kit? They all say on Amazon the 99-8220 doesn’t fit the sequoia

Boosted - Amazon is absolutely wrong in this instance. I saw and was concerned about the very same thing, and decided to just go for it and try it out.

It fit perfectly with no modifications at all!!

Also yes mine was matte black and it matches very nicely.

I hate the audio quality of Sirius/XM, so no I did not add on that harness. If you want or need to the part number is:

DO NOT use the stock Toyota GPS antenna with the Kenwood unit. It requires a special proprietary antenna (included in the box) to work with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless features (learned from Kenwood rep). Not sure about other manufacturers…….

Also one more thing….I did not use the flexible black metal plate under the Kenwood GPS antenna. I stuck it to the very top center of the windshield (in the black dotted area) just left of the rear view mirror mounting arm and it works great!
I also mounted the Kenwood microphone to the left of the GPS antenna and people say my phone call audio on their end is ultra clear…….do not mount it next to the window or you will get road/wind noise when the window is down.

So weird, I used the stock Toyota GPS/SAT antenna in my Tundra and my CarPlay works just fine. From my limited understanding, this will afford you (with the separate tuner SXV300 and the

ACC-SAT-TO2) access to SiriusXM without a cell signal so you don’t have to use the app, while retaining the factory GPS/SAT antenna. I thought the CarPlay and AA was based on your phones GPS anyhow…this may be different with the

So the requirement has changed a few times for the GPS/phone/CarPlay specifications over the last few years. You may have gotten lucky with a combo that worked with that year and spec of your head unit (The spec has changed back and forth from just the phone’s GPS, to the phone and the head unit’s GPS requirements). The current spec with Kenwood (and maybe others too) is phone and HU GPS…..
BTW the new HU has a “new” GPS antenna (identified with a white label at the connector end) that is special to THAT HU and you cannot use an old GPS antenna from an older Kenwood HU….you must replace it with the new antenna for it to work properly.

You are correct in that the separate SXV300 module is WAY better and does let you use the Sirius/XM on the head unit without a cell signal.

Inlet is bigger and totally different. Also filter is much less restrictive.

I also removed the “bug screen” on the inside top of the filter box to allow for better inlet flow to the filter.

 

I also have noticed better pedal/throttle response.

 

SMD voltage gauge flush mounted.

Had to move a few switches (center diff lock and tow/haul) to the center of the dash and then custom mold the gauge housing into the stock panel…

 

Jonesing for the weekly update. I’m about to pull the trigger on the Westcott kit. I take it the smart thing to do is get the airbags and install it all at the same time?

 

Yes it is much easier to install the bags when you are working on the suspension springs.
No modding this week on the sequoia. I have been working on a large stereo install on a clients vehicle……

 

Any pointers on removing the stock head unit? All the YouTube videos I’m finding seem to be first gens. Just curious about sequence of panels to remove to get the head unit out without breaking clips

There's a sequence of about 6-8 panels you have to remove. Process is pretty straight forward tho. Here is a video I found for a 2nd Gen.

Switched cupholder LED to blue and added blue mood lights to footwells……

Wired the footwell lights to the cupholder light. All work with the OEM headlight switch on the blinker arm.

Not as bright in person. Pretty dim actually……

 

In regards to your Kenwood set-up -- Mine is almost identical (same DMX-1057). I am having an issue pushing the software update to the head unit. I got the USB adapter so I could continue using the stock USB slot on the dash and was able to push through a software update last year, but the most recent one is not working. The unit is not recognizing the USB drives -- but it will power the device that is connected (such as a phone). I do not want to take apart the dashboard to try connecting directly to the HU -- has anyone else had similar issues?

ALSO -- is everyone having issues with the portal app? I cannot connect my phone to upload new photo wallpapers -- this used to be seamless and easy to do -- now the app just crashes.
